Saturday’s AMA Pro SunTrust Moto-GT race at Barber Motorsports Park ended with a rain-and-oil-covered racetrack and a controversial finish. Crozier Motorsports (Mark Crozier/Phil Caudill) were leading the race and pulling away from Team Hurtbyaccident.com 69 (Armando Ferrer/Rodolfo Ramirez) with about 15 minutes to go in the shortened endurance race. Several riders then started slowing and signaling that there was oil on the wet track surface. Some riders, like D&D Cycles 31’s Scott Jensen, even made a special trip on to pit lane to tell officials directly that there was oil on the track. After about two laps like this, race officials finally called for a full-course caution and sent the Safety Car out to control the field. Then, after the Safety Car took control of the field, Crozier Motorsports pitted its Triumph Daytona 675 to do its mandatory rider change. Shortly after Crozier Motorsports’ pit stop, officials stopped the race with the red flag. Somehow during the confusing ending Crozier Motorsports was able to maintain its lead and was scored as the race winner by nearly 17 seconds over the Suzuki GSX-R600 of Team Hurtbyaccident.com 69. Team Hurtbyaccident.com 69 Team Owner C.J. Czaia felt that there was no way that Crozier Motorsports regained the lead after pitting, that the provisional results were wrong and planned to file a protest. Third place overall and the win in the GT2 category went Team Hurtbyaccident.com 64’s father and son pairing of Jimmy Filice and Justin Filice, who rode a Ducati PS1000LE. The oil that caused the race to be stopped was suspected to have come from the Buell 1125R of Liberty Waves Racing, which was disqualified and fined after the race for crashing and then continuing on course.
