CHICAGO (May 1st, 2009) Coming off a four week break since the last round of the AMA Superbike Championship, the Michael Jordan Motorsports team will take the track this weekend at Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, AL. Both the Jordan Suzuki and National Guard Jordan Suzuki squads are eager to showcase the new 2009 Suzuki GSX-R 1000 bikes tested earlier in April and are ready to get back to work after the month-long pause. Jordan Suzuki #23 Aaron Yates left Road Atlanta last month with solid performances, culminating in a top five finish in Race 2. Having spent three days recently testing the new 2009 GSX-R 1000, Yates and the entire Jordan Suzuki team are excited about getting back on the grid. “I can’t wait to get back racing again,” said Yates. “The test a few weeks ago at Carolina Motorsports Park went well and I’m loving the 2009 GSX-R. The bike works very well in all areas and I feel good about racing it this weekend at Barber.” National Guard Jordan Suzuki #54 Geoff May’s debut Superbike season has been a revelation with the Gainesville, GA rider putting his #54 Suzuki on the podium in three of the last four races. May and the National Guard Jordan Suzuki team look to continue that trend at Round 4 of the AMA Pro Racing Championship when they take the new 2009 GSX-R out into competition for the first time this year. “We had a good weekend in the last round at Road Atlanta, but now it’s time to move on and keep focused on the upcoming races,” said May. “I’m really looking forward to racing the 2009 Suzuki this weekend since our test at Carolina was really encouraging and the 2009 seemed to work better than the 2008 in all regards. I’m feeling confident and expect more good results at Barber.” More, from a press release issued by Buell: Buell Teams Defending Championship Leads at Barber Eslick and Liberty Waves Hope to Bolster Points Totals East Troy, Wis. (April 30, 2009) Buell racers and teams head into the fourth round of the AMA Pro Racing season at Alabama’s Barber Motorsports Park this weekend with the goal of defending championship leads in two AMA Pro Racing categories. In Daytona SportBike, Bruce Rossmeyer’s Daytona Racing/RMR/GEICO Powersports rider Danny Eslick holds a 10-point lead over rival Monster Energy/Attack Kawasaki’s Jamie Hacking, while the Dairyland Cycle Insurance/Antelope Valley H-D/Buell/Liberty Waves Racing squad of Eric Pinson and Eric Haugo cling to a 1-point lead over the Wisconsin Racing team in the Moto-GT1 entering that series’ third round. “It’s a good place to be sitting, but it’s going to be an uphill battle,” said Eslick, who has won three of the first five Daytona SportBike races, including a sweep of March’s double-header at California Speedway and a win at Road Atlanta. “We’ve gone OK in the past at Barber, but the weather’s not looking too good [for the weekend]. I’m not thinking about the championship too much, but I don’t want to throw it away over something stupid, so we’re just looking to get out of [Barber] and the next race at Infineon with some good points.” In the Moto-GT series GT-1 class, Pinson and Haugo, who finished on the podium in each of the first two rounds, hope to reach the top step at Barber at the conclusion of Saturday’s 2-hour endurance race. “I’m really exited about the way [the 1125R] is handling,” said Pinson. “At Road Atlanta, it handled better in the esses than my Yamaha, and between the races we worked with Racetech on the suspension setup and found some things. I think we may really be in the ballpark [of a victory] now.” Founded by visionary motorcycle designer and former privateer racer Erik Buell in 1983, Buell Motorcycle Company, a subsidiary of Harley-Davidson, Inc., produces sport motorcycles, motorcycle parts, accessories and apparel, including the 1125R superbike and air-cooled XB-series Ulysses, Firebolt, and Lightning.
