ASRA/CCS Spring Fling at Road America This Weekend It’s that time again, time for our annual sojourn to the nation’s longest road course, Elkhart Lake’s Road America. The 4-mile, 14-turn course is legendary and this event is the kick-off for motorcycle racing at the storied facility for 2009.. Historically this event at Road America has been witness to the largest number of entries at any motorcycle road racing event in the United States and this year looks like it will be another strong event with more than 550 pre-entries already logged in. All of the championship contenders in the Michelin Pro Series have entries for the event along with some of the stars from past seasons, insuring more of the great racing action we’ve come to expect from these riders. Current Factory Pro SportBike and SuperBike Championship leader Paul Allison of Pennsylvania will be there trying to improve on his second place finish in the first two events, while SuperStock leader Brian Stokes looks for win number two of the season. The CCS Great Plains Overall Champion from 2008, Matt Hall from Kansas City, will be there to make sure that neither Stokes or Allison get too comfortable as he looks towards another podium finish in the Michelin Pro Series. The ThunderBike point-leader, Dan Bilansky of Waukesha WI will also be trying to get his second win of the season after a crash on the opening lap at Heartland Park cost him dearly. With a 3-point lead Bilansky will be looking to stretch the advantage at his home track over last weeks winner Joe Rozynski. For the Michelin Team Challenge Series, the Central States Racing Team, GTO class leader, will be trying to extend their point lead over multi-time champion Calvin Martinez and his Wisconsin Racing Team, no easy task at any track. The Design Integrity Team from Illinois, lead by Joel Spaulding, will try to close the 13 point gap in the standings to the GTL class leading Predator Racing Team from Hilliard, FL while GTU and Overall Championship leader Chester Auto Repair Racing seeks it’s second overall win of 2009 at Road America. This year the event features the Michelin Pro Series, the Michelin Team Challenge Series, the Championship Cup Series presented by MotoSport.com and the United States Grand Prix Riders Union (USGPRU) in three full days of racing. Racing action starts at Noon on Friday with the Michelin Team Challenge, featuring the A&J Recognition Solo Challenge. Saturday’s full slate of CCS races starts at 11:00am and Sunday’s Michelin Pro Series events start at 11:30am, Tickets for all three days are just $35.
