Colorado Road Racer Shannon Moham Puts The Hammer Down In His First Weekend Racing Posting Four Race Wins! After a devastating crash on I-70 that totaled a trailer and damaged multiple bikes, Colorado racer Shannon Moham was unable to attend his first race weekend at Miller Motorsports Park in Utah where last year he was named Sportsman of the Year. Thus his season started a week later with the MRA at Pueblo Motorsports Park and was nothing short of fantastic! Saturday’s sprint races began with impressive fourth and fifth place finishes in MWSS and HWSS on his Michelin shod Vanmar Racing Yamaha R6. The Mighty Suzuki SV650, suffering major damage due to the I-70 crash, was questionable to even start more less perform to its highest expectations. Even Moham was questionable as he had undergone major back surgery during the off season. Living up to its name, the Mighty SV and its rider, hung with the best of them finishing only second to Shane Turpin’s 1100 cc Bimota in LWGP, and then took the win in LW Endurance. After dominating for 30 minutes in LW and with no rest, Shannon hopped on his R6 and proceeded to finish first in the 30 minute HW Endurance race. Needless to say, the bikes and the rider were feeling pretty good as the day wound down in Southern Colorado. Sunday proved to be just as eventful for road racer #945. The first race of the day brought home a win as Shannon dominated, once again, on the Mighty SV in Modern Vintage GTU. In the main event of the day, ROR U, Shannon hung in second place following Ricky Orlando for the first few laps only to have his back spasm mid race giving the way to two great competitors, Dalton Dimick and Pedro Bravo. Thanks to the confidence inspired by his race tech suspended R6, Shannon hung in there for a noteworthy fourth place finish running a best lap time of 1:33.6. Next, the Mighty SV brought another first place win in ST GTU, and Shannon finished his day battling on his R6 with those 750’s in HWSB and came away with a notable third place. “This was a huge relief for me to know I can still be competitive on a motorcycle after major back surgery, months of rehab, and no time on the bikes. It was very confidence inspiring to have Racetech provide such incredible suspension components that work so well with the newest generation Michelin tires.” said #945 racer Shannon Moham after four race wins over the weekend. “The work of my surgeon, Dr Chad Prusmack, the guidance of my physical therapist, Dr Ryan Winters, and the support of my family made this weekend possible.” Shannon Moham (#945) is sponsored by Nordic Nursing, Race Tech, Vanmar Racing, Michelin tires, Woodcraft, Cheetah Racing Bodies, Vortex Sprockets, Puma Boots, Lockhart Phillips, GPR Stabelizers, R-Tech/Intermountain Race Fuels, Galfer Brakes, Silkolene, Bazzaz Performance, Pit Bull Stands, Vickery Motorsports, Worldwide Bearings, ETI FuelCel, Yamaha, Team Papajohn, Faster Motorsports, and Ma. More, from a press release issued by Rea Racing: Epsom Racer Gino Rea wins thrilling WSBK Superstock 600 race at Assen and 4th in Dutch ONK Superbike. 26-04-2009- Gino won the thrilling WSBK Superstock 600 race at Assen today to put him top of the championship table. From 5th on the grid Gino got a lighting start to see him in front into the first corner and through the first and second lap. Lonbois then passed and the following 6 laps saw Gino, Lombois, Petrucci, Bussolotti and Litjens (the main 5 title contenders) all fighting for position in a tight group. With three laps to go Bussolotti ran too fast at the end of the home straight and took both himself and Petrucci out of the race leaving the remaining three to fight it out. With a podium easily in reach and two title contenders out, Gino decided to ride smart and would have been happy with a podium. Two laps to go and Lonbois passed Litgens for the lead but lost the front shortly after. Into the final lap and Litjens led Gino to the final corner but locked up the rear leaving enough of a gap for Gino to pass to lead the final 100m to the finish line. A great race and certainly one to watch on Motors TV (Sky Channel 413, Virgin Media 545) when it is on this Thursday at 7.30pm (UK Time). Full race results on the WSBK site. Ginos words: “That was a pretty exciting race. I got a really good start and managed to lead the first two laps. My bike doesnt quite have the straight line speed so I was pushing at the beginning while I had a new tyre to stay with the leading group. Toward the end of the race I was in a good position to battle for the win or a podium when the Yamaha Italia riders took each other out. With a podium easily in reach I sat in 3rd with 2 laps to go. They had a bit of a gap so I pushed to close up, I was right behind Joey Litjens when Lonbois went down. I used my head and pushed just enough to be close to Joey on the final lap when he broke a little too late into the final chicane, I didnt hesitate to take the gap and finished on the top step! Im thrilled to take the win and a 10 point lead in the championship!” Gino also raced his third Dutch Superbike round with the Duntep team, this afternoon at the Assen event finishing 4th following his 2nd place at Spa last weekend. Gino started 14th on the grid due to his 600cc qualifying time having to be used but another lightning start gave him 7th position into the first corner. Gino then started to work his way up reaching 3rd before a rear brake failure slowed progress leaving Gino 4th at the end of the race.
