DUCATI 1098R (# 616) DOMINATES SUPERBIKES IN MRA SEASON OPENER AT PUEBLO

The Northern Colorado Euro Motorcycles (NorCO Racing) Ducati 1098R, piloted by #616 Brad Hendry won all three events entered and broke two class records at the season opener for the Motorcycle Racing Association (MRA) at Pueblo Colorado on Sunday April 27, 2009.

The Supertwins GTO race saw a significant amount of Ducatis in a large field of 20 riders. The NorCO Racing #616 Ducati 1098R machine was starting from the 2nd line on the grid and, after a great start, was first through turn 1 and then began to move away from Shane Turpin in second position on a Buell 1125R who was closely followed by Jon Glaefke on his Ducati 1098R. In lap 3 the pilot Brad Hendry set his fastest lap and broke the Supertwins lap record by 2.6 seconds. Brad easily took first place with the Ducati 1098R of Jon Glaefke getting around Turpin’s Buell to claim the second position and putting 2 Ducatis on the Supertwins podium.

In the Open Superbike event the Northern Colorado Euro Ducati 1098R was in the second row and, after a great start entered the first turn in second position behind Crash Lowe on his GSXR 1000 closely followed by Shane Turpin on his Jordan GSXR 1000, Dan Turner on his GSXR 1000 and Matt Lynn on his Kawasaki 1000. The Brad Hendry #616 1098R quickly moved into first place at the second turn and slowly moved away from the rest of the field. Shane Turpin’s GSXR took over 2nd position but could not gain on the Ducati 1098R. Brad set his fastest lap in lap 2 which was just .003 seconds outside of the class lap record. The NorCO Racing Ducati 1098R held onto the lead and finished ahead of Turpin in second position, followed by Turner and Lynn.

In the Superbike feature race of the weekend, the Race of the Rockies GTO, the NorCO Racing Ducati 1098R stared from 6th position but, after a great launch, took the holeshot and led the first lap closely followed by Shane Turpin on his Jordan GSXR 1000 and Dan Turner on his Suzuki GSXR 1000 with Matt Lynn on his Kawasaki 1000 moving quickly into 4th position. In the 2nd lap on the long front straight the 2 GSXR’s draft passed Hendry’s 1098R putting him into 3rd position for lap 2 as they entered the infield. Hendry’s Ducati 1098R passed the Turner GSXR 1000 in turn 7 and set off after Turpin. The # 616 Ducati closely followed the Turpin GSXR for 5 laps then Brad made a move in Turn 8 and, using the great torque of the Ducati 1098R drove thru Turpin before Turn 9. A close race followed with the Northern Colorado Euro Hendry piloted Ducati 1098R slowly opening up a gap and winning the Race of the Rockies GTO by some 15 bike lengths. During this great race the #616 Ducati also set the class lap record by breaking Aaron Clark’s record by over .3 seconds. This is also the first time in over 15 years that a Ducati has been on the top spot of the podium in this prestigious race.

“This thorough bred racing machine really came through for me today” said pilot #616 Brad Hendry after the Race of the Rockies win. “The great torque characteristics of the Ducati twin coupled with the excellent Dunlop Ntech tires gave me the power out of the corners in the in-field to overcome the long straight speed advantage of the GSXRs. It was a great race and it is great to put a Ducati on the top of the Race of the Rockies podium again.”

Brad Hendry (# 616) and the NorCO Racing team is sponsored by Northern Colorado Euro Motorcycles of Loveland CO., Ducati , Boulder Motorsports, Ducati Performance, Termignoni, Dunlop, Bel-Ray Oils, Sidi, Vemar, Woodcraft, BrakeTech, Ferrodo, Spiegler, Syndicate and Junkyard Ink
