Wednesday, April 22nd, 2009 (Toronto, Canada) Women motorcyclists from all around the world are getting ready to participate in the third International Female Ride Day, occurring this year on May 1st. This event is now a not-to-be-missed day to celebrate the passion shared by enthusiasts, not only from Canada, but also from United States, Israel, Australia, France, Poland, Italy and more. “It’s really quite uncomplicated to be part of the event, because women are invited to simply be on their motorcycles or scooters on the first of May JUST RIDE!” says Vicki Gray, campaign founder and Director of MOTORESS. “There’s a real camaraderie among women and a real pride to participate in this one day event, dedicated entirely to women riders. The day has become a terrific incentive for women’s rider clubs and friends to get together and celebrate their common interest in the activity. In some localities, International Female Ride Day signifies the kick-off to riding season.” For Vicki, it’s clear that the enormous success of this day comes from the fact that it is up to each woman to decide how she wants to participate and every women who does participate has a role she’s an example of what motorcycling can be in a woman’s life. Adding to the success is the support received by the motorcycling industry-at all levels. Since its introduction in 2007, International Female Ride Day “fever” has caught on with such a force that, for this third edition, women from Poland, Israel and Italy are counting themselves in, contributing to the campaign on May 1st in their country. A recently formed women’s rider club in Israel will ride through the streets of Tel Aviv. After the ride, the club has planned a big market where manufacturers feature gear and products for women. It is the first time in history that a women’s motorcyclist club exists in Israel. “International Female Ride Day has become an event that helps promote awareness for women and motorcycling in their own culture,” says Vicki. “With the synchronisation of this campaign all around the world, it means the same thing happens in countries such as France, Canada, United States, Italy and even Israel!” With the success of this event comes along a lot of challenges for the founder, Vicki Gray. “You realize you’ve created something women riders identify with, that speaks to their hearts when you view first hand its success in such a short time and when the promotional material needs to be translated into Polish or Italian! We’ve always provided information in French, as you can imagine, what with Canada being bilingual,” says Vicki. “We’re still a small team at MOTORESS, but that’s never limited us to the huge intentions we have for women riders and the manner by which we bring motorcycling front and centre in the lives of women,” she adds. This year, each participant can directly upload her ride day photos onto MOTORESS.com. Each year, participants were invited to send in their pictures, but due to the increased numbers in 2008, MOTORESS could not post them all. With the instant upload option, MOTORESS will have the ability to include everyone. INTERNATIONAL FEMALE RIDE DAY is supported by AFMQ (ASSOCIATION DES FEMMES MOTORCYCLISTES DU QUEBEC); ARAI; BMW; BUELL; CSC-GEARING UP (CANADA SAFETY COUNCIL); CMA (CANADIAN MOTORCYCLE ASSOCIATION); DUCATI; HARLEY-DAVIDSON; HONDA; HYOSUNG; J.D.
