Jeff Tigert kept his perfect season in the Willow Springs Motorcycle Club Toyota Gold Cup Formula 1 series intact, but just barely, taking a 0.067-second win over Jeremy Toye. It was Tigert’s fourth win in as many Formula One races this year at Willow Springs, and earned him $3000 in purse money alone. Tigert and his Dunlop-shod, American Honda-backed CBR1000RR ran second behind Toye’s Lee’s Cycle-backed Honda for the first four laps, then pushed his way to the front to lead Lap Five. Toye, also on Dunlops, fought back, leading the eighth lap and holding the point until the 16th lap, when Tigert went ahead again. While Toye stayed close, Tigert led across the stripe every time to the checkered flag. Shawn Higbee and his Buell 1125R held third throughout the entire race, but finished 31.645 seconds back of Tigert. Chris Duran, Karl Lowry and Mark Simon rounded out the top six. Tigert also won the Open Modified Production and Open Superbike races, while Lowry won the Open Superstock race. Toye took second to Tigert in Open Superbike. Higbee not only took third in the Formula 1 race, but also won the Heavyweight Twins and Formula Twins Heavyweight races, setting a new class lap record of 1:22.445 in Heavyweight Twins.
