With two of its three riders, Sébastien Gimbert and David Checa, below the 1’38 bar, Yamaha France GMT 94 managed to get the best from the second qualifying session at Le Mans. The third rider, Erwan Nigon, also improved his lap time this morning with a 1’38.172. Yamaha France GMT 94 leads over Honda France with Matthieu Lagrive, Sébastien Charpentier and Steve Plater. On the Honda, Matthieu Lagrive, who is the only one in the 1’37 bracket, suffered a small crash this morning while trying to improve his lap time. The best permanent team is Michelin Power Research Team, who is strongly placed in the leading trio with its homogeneous team of riders. Hugo Marchand did a lap in 1’37.610 and is closely followed by William Costes and Josep Monge. Apparently, Suzuki Endurance Racing Team is still looking for some solutions to improve their new GSX-R 1000. Slightly delayed by a small crash of Barry Veneman, the SERT is however holding tight against two followers in the likes of Kawasaki GSR and Yamaha Austria Racing Team. The top 10 of this second qualifying session also includes the Honda National Motos, the Kawasaki Bolliger Switzerland, the surprising Yamaha Loïc Moto Racing of Cyril Brivet, Patrick Piot and David Morillon, and the Suzuki of RT Racing Team Moto Virus. The starting grid is still to be finalised. The first ten places will be reallocated after the Superpole. Each team will have to design his best rider, who will be sent back on track for one hot lap. The Superpole will start at 4:10 pm at Le Mans, if the weather remains rain free. The Superpole will be cancelled in case of rain or wet track. In eleventh place, the Junior Team Suzuki LMS is second in the Superstock class and won’t take part of the Superpole. They are ahead of Yamaha BK Maco Moto Racing, who reckons to have missed of track time, the Suzuki Team 18 Sapeurs Pompiers, the Suzuki RAC 41 City Bike and the Suzuki AM Moto Racing, who fiercely defends his status of new permanent team of the 2009 Qtel FIM Endurance World Championship. A few teams had to experience some crashes, such as Honda RMT 21, in 16th place, or the Suzuki Endurance Moto 45, 23rd, as well as the Italians of MCS Racing, in 32nd place, but two of their riders discovered the Bugatti race track at Le Mans this week.
