Pirelli has escalated its support of this year’s British Superbike Championship by raising their profile to become presenting sponsor of the series as it enters its second year of sole tyre supply. The iconic tyre manufacturer is backing the series from all angles, stepping up its substantial commitment to the Championship by upping its sponsorship of the series as well as entering into a second year as sole tyre provider to the Superbike and Supersport classes. Since Pirelli’s revolutionary move in World and British Superbike, a one make tyre rule has been adopted by all top level motorcycle racing events enabling riders and teams to compete on a more level playing field. To this background the British Superbike Championship maintains its position as the World’s most competitive and best supported domestic motorcycle racing series. The British Superbike Championship in association with Pirelli, which kicks off at Brands Hatch on Easter Monday April 13th has, despite the difficult economic conditions, retained an excellent calibre of both factory backed teams and leading British and International riders. Gianmarco Spigolon, Director of Pirelli Moto in the UK commented, “Our relationship with the British Superbike Championship has been a success from day one, we are really happy to have increased our partnership and presence in this arena and now we can’t wait to see race one at Brands Hatch. Racing has always been a key factor for Pirelli, our motto, we race what we sell and sell what we race, reflects the fact that everything learned on track is used to produce better road tyres for our customers.” Jonathan Palmer, Chief Executive of MotorSport Vision added, “The introduction of a single tyre rule to British Superbikes has been a great success and I’m delighted that Pirelli is expanding its involvement with the championship in 2009. The brand is recognised throughout the world thanks to Pirelli’s professionalism and the quality of its products. I’m looking forward to us working even closer together in these exciting times for BSB.”
