Fairfax, VA – USGPRU motorcycles racers are headed out to Buttonwillow Raceway to join the AFM for both series’ first event of the 2009 season. This will be the first time in several years that these two series have teamed up to provide the best of both regional and national competition in one weekend. According to USGPRU president, Stewart Aitken-Cade, “We are very happy to be back together with the AFM. They run some of the best events on the West Coast and we are glad they are including us in this event. We hope to bring a bit of the GP flavor to the weekend, and help them to put on an even better show than usual.” While the USGPRU and AFM cater to racers from age 12 on up, the kids will be out in force. Red Bull Rookie Cup champion, Benny Solis, will be racing his new Honda powered Moriwaki MD250H as he tries to claim part of the $10k purse. Defending MD250H champion, Jake Lewis, will be there too, trying to take home the $2k first place prize. These kids and many other aspiring stars will be out at Buttonwillow, learning, racing, and having a great time while doing it. In addition to the Moriwaki race, the USGPRU will be featuring the Pilot 125GP and Moto Liberty/RS-Taichi 250GP classes. Both classes have a proven record of providing some of the most exciting racing on 2 wheels! Some USGPRU racers like Josh Herrin, Tommy Aquino, Garrett Carter go on to stellar careers in AMA Pro road racing as well as several like PJ Jacobsen and Cameron Beaubier who have made the jump straight into world-level competition. So this is a great opportunity to see some of the superstars of tomorrow before they disappear behind factory banners. Buttonwillow Raceway offers a technically challenging 3.0 mile course with over 15 turns. The track heavily favors rider ability over that of their mechanic’s engine building skills. Buttonwillow is located 120 miles north of Los Angeles on the I-5. The track is very spectator friendly as the majority of the track is visible from the paddock area. Practice will run most of the day Saturday with several races late in the day. Sunday will feature the main events with over 13 rounds of races with bikes ranging from 125cc up to 1000+cc superbikes.
