Auto Club Speedway Making Improvements To Infield Straightaway Kink

Auto Club Speedway is making changes to the kink on the infield straightaway on its 2.36-mile road course today to improve safety for motorcycle racers and track day riders. In the recent past, motorcycle riders and racers banked right at high speed into the Turn 10/11 chicane, or kink, section on the back straightaway and exited to the left over a dip in the pavement. The dip causes most motorcycles to have headshake and instability, which has contributed to several sketchy moments, some crashes and possibly even one recent fatality. Based on information collected during Fastrack Riders track day/riding school events and a recent AMA teams test, Auto Club Speedway personnel are today adding pavement to rider’s right in the Turn 10/11 chicane/kink. This change will make the section a straighter shot from Turn Nine to Turn 12 and draw riders away from the headshake-inducing dip on the left. Auto Club Speedway is also planning to push back concrete K-rail barriers at the base of the pedestrian bridge over the infield straightaway, creating additional run-off room. These changes should be completed today and ready for the Fastrack Riders track day and riding school event scheduled for this weekend, March 14-15, at Auto Club Speedway.
