American Suzuki recently posted the details of its 2009 road racing contingency plans, and those plans do not include payouts in the ASRA National series or the Loudon Road Racing Series (LRRS), the northeast affiliate of CCS. The plans also do not include holding the Suzuki Cup Finals, an event that has been an annual fixture on the road racing calendar for over 20 years. Asked for immediate reaction to the news, ASRA Sportbike, Superbike and Superstock Champion Jeff Wood said, “Without that money I won’t be able to do the ASRA series. I might do some local [ASRA] races, but I won’t be able to do the whole thing.” Wood raced a Suzuki GSX-R1000, GSX-R750, GSX-R600 and Yamaha YZF-R6 in 2008 and is racing a Suzuki GSX-R1000 and a Yamaha YZF-R6 in the CCS/ASRA event this weekend at Daytona International Speedway. Roadracingworld.com was unable to reach the appropriate parties at American Suzuki before post time. In the past, American Suzuki has consistently paid out more road race contingency in America than any other motorcycle manufacturer. In 2009, American Suzuki will offer contingency in: AFM, AMA Pro Racing, CCS, CMRA, CRA, MRA, OMRRA, USBA/MOM, WERA National Challenge, WERA National Endurance, WERA Sportsman, WMRRA and WSMC.
