The Crescent Suzuki British Superbike Team has concluded three days of testing at the Calafat Circuit in northern Spain, declaring their first test on the all-new 2009 GSX-R1000 a success. Despite suffering a reduced schedule, after high winds stopped Wednesday’s sessions, team rider Sylvain Guintoli still managed to complete a total of 145 laps, testing suspension settings as well as different engine specifications. Talking about his first test on the new bike, Guintoli commented, “Overall it’s been a really encouraging start. Compared to the 2008 machine I rode at Brands Hatch last year, the new Crescent Suzuki already feels more focused, and this is just our first outing. Despite the test being shortened due to the high winds, I feel like we’ve got a great package to build on from here onwards.” Also speaking after the test, team manager Jack Valentine, added, “I’m really pleased with how things have gone this week. We tested here last year, and I know from Sylvain’s performance that we’re leaving here in a much stronger position already. We’ve actually made minimal setting changes which just demonstrate how good the new bike is.” The team now head back to the UK before returning to Almeria in Spain next month for further testing, while Sylvain will join the press launch for the all-new GSX-R1000 production bike at the Almeria Circuit later this month.
