SONOMA, Calif. (Jan. 20, 2009) Infineon Raceway has featured a comprehensive recycling program since 2004, but the Sonoma Valley facility will take things to the next level in 2009 with its “Go Green” campaign. The raceway is committed to being environmentally friendly, and, to reach that goal, will spearhead initiatives befitting a responsible member of the global community. What follows is an outline of the “Go Green” efforts planned for the 2009 race season at Infineon Raceway: Recycling Since 2004, Infineon Raceway has recycled more than 73 tons (147,524 pounds) of materials. The tonnage equates to slightly more than the total weight of a full NASCAR Sprint Cup Series starting field 43 stock cars. The raceway is the only motor-sports facility in the country with a comprehensive recycling program, and has been recognized by the State of California Department, Division of Recycling for its recycling efforts. · Infineon Raceway also works with Safety-Kleen to recycle used oil products at its NASCAR and NHRA events. Safety-Kleen refines approximately 180,000,000 gallons of used motor oil each year. Mowing Green Nearly 3,000 sheep will continue to call Infineon Raceway home in 2009. They will provide an invaluable service, helping to maintain the grasses and fire lanes around the facility. The raceway formed a relationship with Rocky Mountain Wooly Weeders in 2008, which provides the sheep. The sheep live on property full-time and are tended by two shepherds. Clean Green Clean facilities are very important at Infineon Raceway, and to that end, 90-percent of the janitorial products we use in 2009 will be environmentally-friendly. Water Conservation Infineon Raceway will continue to conserve and reduce its demand for water in 2009: * Waterless urinals in restrooms, which reduce our water consumption by 36-percent. * The raceway is home to an independent water system and sewage treatment plant. The raceway is not dependent on the county or city for its water needs. * All landscaping is watered with recycled and reclaimed water. Rubber to Roads The raceway will send old tires to be recycled in 2009 so that they can be used to help create rubber-based asphalt, playground padding and other purposes. Cardboard Recycling Using its own cardboard baler, Infineon Raceway will recycle more than 3,000 pounds of cardboard each month in 2009. These efforts will help greatly to reduce the number of debris boxes sent to landfills. Hybrid Toyotas More than 29-percent of Infineon Raceway’s fleet of 2009 Toyota vehicles are powered by Hybrid engines. Owls Welcome Infineon Raceway will feature 15 owl boxes around its property in 2009 to encourage the birds to nest and hunt for gophers and other rodents around the facility. One family of Barn Owls can eat 30-to-40 rodents a night, which helps the raceway eliminate the need for pesticides and other poisons in controlling pests.
