R.I.P. WSMC/WERA Racer Joe Lopez, Linked To Proposed AMA Superbike Team Owned By Magic Johnson

Club racer Joe Lopez of West Covina, California died Sunday as the result of injuries sustained when he crashed his GSX-R600 Suzuki during a WERA Regional race at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, California. Lopez, age 32, had recently been contacting potential sponsors within the motorcycle industry regarding the formation of an AMA Superbike team owned by basketball great Magic Johnson. One long-time industry insider described Lopez as being “the point man for the Magic Johnson team.” Additional information will be posted as it becomes available.
