Dunlop has announced details of how it will conduct its spec tire program during the 2009 AMA Pro road race season: Compounds, Sizes and Prices: At Daytona, American Superbike riders will have two compounds of dry weather tires to choose from in the sizes 125/80R-17 KR106 front and 195/65R-17 KR108 rear. If necessary, they will be provided intermediates tires, 120/70-ZR17 D211GP 6342 front and 200/55ZR-17 D211 GP 6680 rears, but no rain tires will be provided for the American Superbike class at Daytona. Daytona-spec American Superbike tires will cost $185 for fronts and $235 for rears, or $420 per set plus tax. At all other tracks, American Superbike riders will have three front compounds (Soft, Medium and Hard) and two rear compounds (Soft/Medium and Medium/Hard) to choose from in the sizes 125/80R-17 KR106 front and 195/65R-17 KR108 rear, one choice of intermediates (120/70ZR-17 D211GP front and 200/55ZR-17 D211GP rear) and one choice of rain tires (120/70R-17 KR222 front and 190/55R-17 KR393 rear). These non-Daytona tires will cost $175 for fronts and $205 for rears, or $400 per set plus tax. At Daytona, Daytona SportBike riders will run one of two compound choices in 120/70ZR-17 D211GP front and 190/55ZR-17 rear sizes. Daytona Sportbike will not have any wet weather tire choices at Daytona. Daytona-spec Daytona SportBike tires will cost $420 per set plus tax. At all other tracks, Daytona SportBike participants will run American-made 120/70ZR-17 Sportmax GPA fronts (two compounds, Soft and Medium) and 190/55ZR-17 Sportmax GPA rears (two compounds, Soft/Medium and Medium/Hard). The class will also be provided one choice of rain tires, 120/70R-17 KR222 fronts and 190/55R-17 rears. Non-Daytona tires will cost Daytona SportBike riders $155 for fronts and $205 for rears, or $360 per set plus tax. Supersport class riders will have one choice of dry tires at Daytona, D211GPs, 120/70ZR-17 fronts and 190/55ZR-17 rears, and no intermediate or rain tires. At other tracks, Supersport riders will use a 120/70ZR-17 Sportmax GPA front in a Soft compound and a 190/55ZR-17 Sportmax GPA rear in a Soft/Medium compound. In the event of rain, they will ride on 120/70ZR-17 KR222 and 190/55R-17 KR393 rain tires. Supersport tires will cost $420 per set plus tax at Daytona and $360 per set plus tax at all other tracks. Riders in the two Moto-GT classes will have the same tire choices as Supersport, but they will run Medium-compound fronts and Medium/Hard-compound rears no matter how long or short their endurance races are. Moto-GT class tires will cost the same as Supersport tires. Quantities: American Superbike and Daytona SportBike competitors will be allowed to use no more than six fronts and nine rears, except at Daytona where they will be allowed to run up to nine fronts and 12 rears. The riders who make it to Superpole (the top 10 in each class) will be provided one extra set of tires from the compounds already available. If necessary, the American Superbike class will be allowed to run up to three sets of Intermediate tires, which will count against their dry tire allotment, and four sets of rain tires at double-headers or three sets of rain tires at single-race weekends, which will not count against their dry tire allotment. The Supersport class will be allowed to use four sets of tires per weekend and two sets of rain tires per weekend, if necessary. In three-hour races, Moto-GT teams will be allowed to use five sets of dry tires or three sets of rain tires. Tire quantities will not be restricted in eight-hour races. No additional tires will be allocated due to red flags during any AMA Pro road races. Tire quantity restrictions start with the first official practice on Friday of a typical weekend. No tire restrictions will be enforced during promoter/Thursday practice days. Tires will be tracked by sales and by a tire-sticker identification system that will monitor actual on-track tire use by each competitor. Used tires from previous race weekends, tests or practices can be used, but they will count against a rider’s tire allotment. Race track tire sales are limited to tires actually fitted to rims at the event. Tires will not be available at the track for “Carry-away” sales. Tires that have not been used with a tire warmer and are in “as new” condition can be returned at the racetrack. Only tires purchased at the track may be used in AMA Pro competition and these tires will be required to have current race-weekend AMA Pro tire identification stickers affixed to the sidewall when the rider enters the track. Riders will be required to have two Dunlop patches on their leathers during all practice sessions, qualifying and races, one on each upper front shoulder. Riders will be required to have a Dunlop patch on the lower back of their leathers above the waistline. All racebikes must display two Dunlop decals at all times. One vertical Dunlop decal must be displayed on each lower fork leg or front fender, and a second Dunlop decal “of AMA Pro-specified size” must be placed in a “highly-visible” location on the fairing.
