Ever aging motorcycle road racer “Super” Dave Rosno will undergo surgery on November 12th to repair his internally broken nose. Rosno has also put together a program to race a Buell for Kenosha, Wisconsin’s Uke’s Buell/Harley-Davidson. The surgery should be the final part of a long struggle for Rosno that appeared in 2002. “That year I started experiencing hearing loss, dizziness & balance problems, and a really loud ringing in my ears. I mean, that was really irritating to be alone in a quiet room and to have so much sound coming from my own ears,” Dave recalls. “I went to different doctors and cancer was talked about then ruled out, but that did prompt me to develop my pediatric cancer work. Still suffering reoccurring problems during the second AMA Mid-Ohio Superbike event in 2006, I was terribly sick and was diagnosed with pneumonia afterwards. I went to my new family doctor, and he was the one that finally recognized that, mechanically, my nose had a problem and gave me a path where it could be the cause. That led me to a specialist that diagnosed my additional food allergies which were piled up on top of this. Anyway, the allergies are in control, the final piece is the mechanical part of my nose getting fixed. It will be nice to have something a little more normal.” The road to racing a Buell for Uke’s also has a story. “Well, Buell is that special name in American motorcycling, right? Before my relationship with Vanson, my first set of leathers were sourced from Erik Buell in 1987. Later, when I moved from Omaha to Wisconsin, I met Erik where I worked, and I pursued an attempt to see if I could race a bike for him in some events late one season. Might have been 1997 or so. Can’t even say if Erik remembers,” Dave states. “I made the connection with Uke’s Buell in late 1999 when I was looking to add to my racing program, but I was unable to work that in along with my school program. It all has been on hold until this year when I passed my Visionsports Riding School program to Scotty Ryan, and I lit the switch on trying the Buell. Keith Ulicki and his family are so much a part of Harley-Davidson, and they have a real commitment to the Buell brand and Erik Buell. It’s a neat relationship, honestly. With the Uke’s rich past in history, I’m very excited about seeing what we can do in 2009 and beyond!” “Super” Dave Rosno will be developing a schedule of ASRA, CCS, and possibly CRA events on an XB12R for his up coming season in addition to continuing his work to raise funds for pediatric cancer research.
