The last round of the Qtel FIM Endurance World Championship will take place on Saturday, November 8th at the Losail racetrack in Qatar. Although the Suzuki Endurance Racing Team and the Qatar Endurance Racing Team IJT have claimed the 2008 World Title and the FIM Superstock World Cup respectively, the 8 Hours of Doha will be an important event. Freed by their ninth World Champion title, the SERT will be running the 8 Hours of Doha as a full fledge testing round for the 2009 season. Competitors will have to take the official Suzuki team seriously, as the last year winner is back for another victory, even if they will also conduct some tyre testing and open the Endurance World Championship big door to Guillaume Dietrich, who is riding with Matthieu Lagrive and Julien Da Costa, replacing Vincent Philippe, still injured. Qatar Endurance Racing Team IJT is looking for another good local result, although they already took the FIM World Cup, consecrating the Superstock class. The team is entering with two of their best local riders, Mashel Al Naimi and Rashid Al Mannai, pairing with French rider Anthony Delhalle. Behind those two favourites, the challengers are still racing for the runner up positions in the final 2008 podium. In the World Championship, Yamaha Austria Racing Team is in the best position behind the SERT. With Igor Jerman, Steve Plater and Steve Martin, YART will have to hold their second place against the Spanish Yamaha Folch Endurance with Dani Ribalta and Pedro Vallcaneras. YART is also entering with a second bike given to a trio of Austrian riders. Second in Doha last year, YART will also have to fight with the British Yamaha of Phase One Endurance with Damian Cudlin, Scott Smart and Glen Richards, the Swiss Kawasaki of Bolliger Team with Patric Muff, David Morillon and Horst Saiger and the German Honda RMT 21 Racing. But the French Suzuki of Team 18 Sapeurs Pompiers, fourth last year in Doha and supported by the QMMF for this participation 2008, could also create a bit of surprise. Stéphane Molinier will ride with a Qatari rider and Swiss rider Michael Savary who replaces David Brière, injured. For Maco Moto Racing, the race will be more difficult since Warwick Nowland has been injured after a crash in off-road riding. In the FIM Superstock Wold Cup, LTG 57 is hoping for a second place behind 2008 winner, Qatar Endurance Racing Team IJT. However, there is no room for mistakes for the Yamaha LTG 57 and Michael Lalevée, Amaury Baratin and Cyril Huvier. A bad result would give the second place of the 2008 Superstock podium to Endurance Moto 45, with a Suzuki ridden by Nicolas Jaulneau, Alexandre Lagrive and Emmanuel Parisse. Several Qatari teams might also take part in the race for a final spot on the Superstock podium. The start of the 8 Hours of Doha will take place on Saturday, November 8th, at 1 pm.
