NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Headlines 2009 Season at Infineon Raceway NHRA, IndyCar, AMA Also Featured on 2009 Schedule SONOMA, Calif. (Oct. 21, 2008) NASCAR’s 21st consecutive visit to the Sonoma Valley will headline the 2009 Big O Tires Racing Season at Infineon Raceway, raceway officials announced today. The six-race major-event schedule, one of the most comprehensive in the country, will be highlighted by the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series and IndyCar® Series. “Fans in Northern California look to Infineon Raceway as a center for exciting motor racing and entertainment and they will not be disappointed in 2009,” said Steve Page, president and general manager of Infineon Raceway. “The menu is a full one and it should be a memorable year.” The 2009 schedule will again be headlined by the Toyota/Save Mart 350 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series weekend, June 19-21. The twisting circuit is one of just two road courses on the 36-race Sprint Cup Series schedule, and marks the series’ only visit to Northern California. The weekend will also feature the Bennett Lane Winery 200 NASCAR Camping World West Series. The NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series brings world-class drag racing to the Infineon Raceway drag strip for the 22nd year at the FRAM Autolite NHRA Nationals (July 24-26). Top Fuel pilot Tony Schumacher became just the sixth driver in history to sweep the coveted Western Swing this past July; it was also his second straight win at Infineon Raceway. The IndyCar® Series, which earlier this year announced a three-year agreement to keep open-wheel racing in the Sonoma Valley through 2011, returns to Infineon Raceway for the Indy Grand Prix of Sonoma County, Aug. 21-23. The raceway has produced four different winners since the series first came to Sonoma in 2005, including two-time Indianapolis 500 champion Helio Castroneves in 2008. The racing won’t be limited to four wheels, as the AMA marks its 20th consecutive visit to the Sonoma Valley with the Kawasaki AMA Showdown, presented by Supercuts, May 15-17. For the second year, this two-wheel extravaganza will also feature Motocross and Supermoto racing on the hills above the raceway. Individual tickets for all 2009 major events go on-sale to the general public on Dec. 1, but you can secure one of several ticket packages right now with just a $50 deposit. Ticket packages for NASCAR, NHRA and IndyCar are hot-sellers, so act today to secure the best options by calling 800-870-RACE. Race fans can also renew their 2008 tickets for as little as $1 down. The complete major event schedule for 2009 is as follows: · Kawasaki AMA Showdown, presented by Supercuts May 15-17 · Wine Country Classic Historic Car Races May 30-31 · Toyota/Save Mart 350 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series weekend June 19-21 · FRAM Autolite NHRA Nationals July 24-26 · NHRA Division 7 Drag Races, presented by Korbel July 31-Aug. 2 · Indy Grand Prix of Sonoma County August 21-23 * Schedule subject to change without notice.
