North Texas Superbikes Moto Ace Racing and Dustin Dominguez are #1 after CMRA finale. Texas World Speedway hosted the final round of the Central Motorcycle Road Racing Associations 2008 season this past weekend, with North Texas Superbikes and Dunlop tire equipped teams and riders winning the majority of all Expert classes and establishing a new track record. CMRA Big Bike Endurance Series: Dunlop D211 N-Tec equipped Moto Ace Racing and Team Mancuso Power Sports endurance teams were entrenched in a heated battle for the coveted overall championship leading into the final 6 hours of competition. Mancuso needed to win and for Moto Ace to finish 6th or worse 5 laps down. Mancuso’s Dane Westby, Dustin Meador, Chris Romeo, Craig Clark, and Paul Wilkinson, left the field behind and established a 4 lap lead by the 3 hour mark, but several red flags pulled the field back together in hours 4 and 5, thwarting Westby’s manic run through the pack and allowing Moto Ace to cruise to the CMRA Endurance overall championship victory by finishing 3rd overall and 1st in the C Super Bike class. Dunlop N-Tec slick shod CS Carey finished 2nd in the C Super Bike class for the day. Mancuso finished 1st overall and 1st in A Super Stock, had the most wins and fastest laps at every track, and will wear the number 2 plate for 2009. “We knew it was going to be close,” stated Dane Westby. “But the red flags put us out of the hunt.” Moto Ace Racing riders Dicki McFarland, Joe Prussiano, Cory Burleson, Derek Wagnon, and Scott Foster won the overall by a mere margin, and will sport the number 1 plate for 2009. CS Carey gained enough points to secure the number 6 plate for 2009. NTSB Dunlop Overall Champions CMRA Endurance Series: 1st Overall – Moto Ace Racing 2nd Overall Team Mancuso Power Sports 6th Overall CS Carey 1st A Super Sport Team Mancuso Power Sports 1st B Super Bike Moto Ace Racing CMRA Sprint races: Final overall results for almost every class were decided on Sunday with Dunlop riders winning 50% of the Expert and Novice sprints, as well as 12 out of 20 Expert championships, and the number 1 and 2 overall plates for 2009. Iron man Ty Howard who had won the Moto ST championship at Daytona the day prior, showed up late on Sunday, unable to gain any valuable practice or set up time. Young Gun Dustin Dominguez took advantage and never looked back winning B Super Stock, C Super Stock, D Super Stock, D Super Bike, and Formula 2, putting a stamp on his tremendous season and finalizing his first Expert overall title and will wear the number 1 plate for 2009. “I am honored and humbled to be able to race with guys like TY and Dane, started Dustin. “My new Dunlop 200 was awesome, really sick.” Howard, after 2 races getting up to speed, beat the youngster in C Super Bike and finished the year with the number 2 overall plate, after missing 2 conflicting rounds during the season. One round for Moto ST, the other the birth of his son. “We didn’t have any practice on the 750 and our setup was off a little bit, and our CMRA guys are so fast you can’t give them an inch.” Full time racer Dane Westby ran away with A Super Stock, A Super Bike, and crushed the competition in Formula 1, setting a new lap record of 1:41:717 on a Dunlop N-Tec D211tire. This marked the 7th track record in CMRA competition to be broken this season by Dunlop riders. North Texas Superbikes rider Van Blaylock lead early in the Heavyweight Twins class but conceded the win to Rockwall Honda and Dunlop mounted Chase Vivion after seeing that his only rival for the overall championship had crashed out on lap 3, allowing him to cruise to the championship. Novice racer Ryan Warren finished 2nd to AF1’s Ted Phillips, both on Dunlop’s, but solidified his first overall championship in the Heavyweight Novice class. Other notable finishers included Veteran 125 racer Mike Sweeny who clinched the 125 GP championship, Novice racer James Keenan who won A Super Stock, B Super Stock, A Super Bike, and Formula 1, Marcus Beedle winning F5, and Novice racer David Rice winning B Super Bike and C Super Bike. As the guest of honor at this past weekend’s Barber Vintage Festival, Cook recounted his legendary racing feats at the gala dinner. Always the eloquent speaker, there was nary a dry eye in the house by the time Cook’s story was finished. Immediately afterwards, Cook received a big surprise as the museum pulled the cover off of “Deja Blue” a piece-for-piece replica of Cook’s 1977 Daytona Superbike race winning Ducati 750 SS “Old Blue.” With the help of master tuner, fellow editor and good friend Phil Schilling; Old Blue was born when Cook’s personal Ducati 750 SuperSport was transformed into a bike light enough and fast enough to beat the competition. The duo bored the original 748cc engine to 883cc and reduced weight using revolutionary techniques such as plasma-spraying aluminum rotors and fabricating titanium axles all technology that was previously off limits to a privateer team. The two Cycle magazine editors captivated readers month after month as they chronicled their pursuit of victory at Daytona. When Daytona arrived they won the race; creating a moment in Ducati history that stands out to this day. With “Old Blue” locked up and hidden from the world in a collector’s bedroom; the Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum commissioned a replica of the famous bike for the world to enjoy. “Deja Blue” is an exact copy of Cook and Phil’s Daytona winner using vintage Ducati parts. “The Barber Museum is motorcycling’s grandest cathedral. For Phil and Ducati and me to be represented here is the greatest honor we could imagine. “Deja Blue” is a masterpiece which perfectly captures not just the look of Old Blue, but its heart, sound and soul. This has been a very emotional weekend for Phil and me and all our friends. More, from a press release issued by Team Suzuki News Service: Relentless Suzuki by TAS Racing ended its 2008 racing season in fine style with four wins in two days at the Sunflower Trophy Races in Ireland. Michael Laverty, so often the king of the Bishopscourt Circuit, won two out of three Superbike races, but unfortunately he couldn’t add to his tally of five wins in the Sunflower race in somewhat horrendous conditions. He had been shadowing brother John and Michael Rutter at the front of the field, before a massive front wheel slide on the saturated County Down circuit forced him to settle for a strong finish in fourth place. Ian Lowry was prolific in the Supersport classes taking a brace of wins, and like Laverty in the Superbike races; he was virtually unchallenged in either encounter on his GSX-R600 Suzuki. He also seized the opportunity to ride one of the team’s GSX-R1000 Suzukis in the Superbike class and claimed three top-eight finishes. Michael Laverty: “It’s always good to come home and show what we can do in front of the local fans. My GSX-R1000 Superbike was faultless over the weekend, as we showed in the two dry races. In the wet I had a big front end slide which put paid to any hopes of a third win, but with Ian taking both Supersport wins, I think we did a good job for Relentless Suzuki at the Sunflower. A big end of season thank you must go to everyone in the team and also to our sponsors for all their support this season.” Ian Lowry: “I’m pretty happy with my performances this weekend on the Supersport Suzuki but I would have liked a little bit more from my Superbike rides. It’s never easy coming in and riding a one-off race against BSB and World Superbike regulars but I enjoyed the experience and got one over on a couple of them!
