Jeremy Toye took the Roadracing World project Honda CBR1000RR to his fourth WSMC Toyota Cup Unlimited Formula One win of the season in the next-to-last race of the year for the series Sunday at Willow Springs International Raceway, in Rosamond, California.

Dunlop runner Toye got a less-than-ideal start and found himself mired in the pack as Karl Lowry, the WSMC overall Champion, pulled away to a substantial lead on his Graves Motorsports-backed, Dunlop-shod Yamaha YZF-R1 in the first of 20 laps around the 2.5-mile track.

Toye quickly cleared the Pirelli-shod West Coast GP Cycles Yamaha YZF-R1 of Brant Wiwi and set off after Lowry, tracking him down on the second lap and taking the lead. But Toye could not pull away from Lowry, who kept the gap under two seconds until the closing stages of the race, when Lowry’s right footpeg came off. Lowry had to slow but held onto second place by a wide margin.

Third was taken by Leandro Mercado, the Red Bull Rookies Cup standout impressing those in attendance with his performance on an Attack Kawasaki ZX-6R formerly ridden by Steve Rapp.

Jeffrey Tigert set a new lap record in the Ninja Cup race for Kawasaki Ninja 250Rs, and Rick May and Andy Palmer set new lap records in Formula 50 and Formula Twins Lightweight, respectively.
