American Motorcyclist Association announces additional support/sponsorship for AMA Sports Road Race Grand Championships PICKERINGTON, Ohio–The American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) is proud to welcome additional sponsors and supporters to the 2008 AMA Sports Road Race Grand Championships, set for this weekend, September 19-21, at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio. Rose and Earl Hayden, parents of professional road racers Nicky, Tommy and Roger Hayden, are launching their new online store of Hayden brothers’ memorabilia, HaydenBrosGeneralStore.com, at the event. They have also generously donated some Nicky, Tommy and Roger autographed merchandise to be given away at the AMA Sports Road Race Grand Championships. In addition to their sponsorship, they have donated two display Arai helmets showcasing the autographs of many top AMA Superbike competitors. One autographed Arai helmet will be presented to the Horizon award winner and the other will go to the top rookie of the event. “We’re pleased that the Hayden family and Arai helmets have graciously chosen to support the AMA Sports Road Race Grand Championships,” said AMA Sports National Technical Manager Anthony Grilli. “This event showcases the talent of the very best grassroots road racers from around the United States and these two well-respected brands are an excellent fit with this unique amateur racing program.” The AMA Sports Road Race Grand Championships is the premier amateur road-racing event in the U.S. and awards AMA amateur national road-racing championships in a number of classes. It features true qualifying, the same as professional-level competition, and is taking place on the same track that earlier this year featured a round of the AMA Superbike Championship presented by Parts Unlimited. Top riders at the AMA Sports Road Race Grand Championships compete for the AMA Sports Road Racing Horizon Award, which goes to the rider showing the most promise for success in the professional ranks. Past winners of the AMA Sports Road Racing Horizon Award have included current professional racers Jason DiSalvo, Ben Spies and Blake Young. Sanctioned by the AMA and run by the Championship Cup Series (CCS), the event features CCS classes, including youth classes. The program will operate under CCS rules and regulations, and CCS officials will be on hand to handle officiating duties.
