Motorcycling Australia (MA) are happy to announce that five Australian riders have been granted wildcard entry into the 125cc MotoGP event to be held at Phillip Island from October 3 5 2008. Blake Leigh-Smith, Rhys Moller and Brad Gross have all been granted FMN wildcards by MA, while Jake Horne and Jed Metcher have been allocated wildcards from the FIM. Leigh-Smith and Moller both competed at the 2007 MotoGP event, however neither made it past qualifying. Leigh-Smith came off his bike on the opening lap of qualifying and was forced to witness the remainder of the 2007 event from the sidelines with a shoulder injury, while Moller missed out on qualifying for the final race after finishing more than seven and a half seconds behind the leading rider. Aged 19, Moller is the oldest of the five riders and could prove to be a strong chance after recently recording a time of 1:42:50 in a club race on the Phillip Island circuit. The wildcard entries are a fantastic opportunity to showcase young talent rising through the ranks of Australian motorcycle racing. The event will provide the five riders with the chance to race at an international level in front of a passionate home crowd. MA has not nominated any wildcard entries for the 250cc class of racing.
