By John Ulrich Mat Mladin’s appeal of his disqualification from two AMA Superbike races at VIR should have gone to an Appeal Board. Instead, AMA Pro Racing officials denied the appeal filed on Mladin’s behalf by American Suzuki and Yoshimura Racing, declaring it to be without merit. No matter how strong AMA Pro Racing officials feel their case is, they should have convened an appeal board and given Mladin’s team and sponsor their “day in court.” Afterwards, a transcript of the proceedings as well as copies of written evidence and photos presented to the appeal board should have been released to the press. Simply denying an appeal as being without merit is not enough. Mladin, his team and the public deserve more.
