More On The ‘Cycle Fest’ Happening This Weekend At Miller Motorsports Park

AMA XTRM Supermoto Championship Headlines Cycle Fest at Miller Motorsports Park This Weekend TOOELE VALLEY, UTAH (September 3, 2008) “”This weekend, September 5-7, Miller Motorsports Park will be offering a little something for all motorcycle racing enthusiasts as Cycle Fest celebrates three different forms of two-wheeled competition. The headline attraction will be the third annual appearance of the AMA XTRM Supermoto Championship on Sunday, which will take place on MMP’s state-of-the-art Supermoto course that combines the 0.9-mile Miller Kart Track with dirt and metal jumps. The series’ visit will be the fourth event of its seven-round 2008 schedule. The championship is comprised of three classes: Premier, Lites and Unlimited. In the Premier (450cc) class, Troy Herfoss of Goulburn, Australia, riding the No. 99 KTM 450SX-F for HMC KTM Racing, currently leads the point standings by three points, 70-67, over defending series champion Mark Burkhart (No. 1 Graves Motorsports Yamaha YZ450F) of Pataskala, Ohio, on the strength of two wins in the first three events in the seven-round series. Cassidy Anderson (No. 15 Troy Lee Designs/Red Bull Honda CRF450R) of Provo, Utah, the 2006 Supermoto Lites champion, currently lies fifth in the standings. In the Lites (250cc) division, defending champ Brandon Currie of Anaheim, Calif., riding the No. 1 Graves Motorsports Yamaha YZ250F, has continued his winning ways by winning all three events thus far this season. He currently enjoys a nine-point cushion, 75-66, over Matt Burton (No. 39 RJ Performance KTM 250SX-F) of Ottumwa, Ia., who has finished second in all three races to date this season. Steve Drew of Buckeye, Ariz., riding the No. 73 KTM 505SX-F, currently holds an eight-point lead in the Unlimited class points over Darryl Atkins No. 54 Rip It Energy Aprilia SXV550) of San Clemente, Calif., 70-62, with two wins in three starts this season. Cycle Fest will also include the American Historic Racing Motorcycle Association (AHRMA) and its Bonneville Vintage GP. The AHRMA competitors, many of whom recently competed at the Bonneville Salt Flats, bring lovingly restored, historic racing motorcycles and will compete on the 2.2-mile East Course in a wide variety of classes. The AHRMA event will also include racing sidecars, which were wildly popular in their first MMP appearance last year. The Grand Marshal for the Bonneville Vintage GP will be Doug Polen, two-time World Superbike Champion. A motorcycle concours d’elegance will accompany the races, and a vintage Honda CB160 racer will be raffled off to a lucky winner. Also competing during the course of the Cycle Fest weekend will be MMP’s own Honda Presents the Plaza Cycle Masters of the Mountains motorcycle road racing series on the 2.2-mile West Course and the Plaza Cycle Utah Supermoto Championship, which will share the Supermoto course with the AMA pros. Off-track entertainment includes a Utah Highway Patrol motorcycle skills competition. Fans are invited to try their hand on the UHP skills course from 11:30 am 2:00 pm on Sunday to see if you can match or beat their times. In addition, the Mongoose BMX Team will be doing demonstrations throughout the day on Sunday. Tickets for the Cycle Fest are priced at $10 for Saturday and $15 for Sunday, with kids 12 and under admitted free of charge. Admission is free for everyone on Friday.
