Safety First Suzuki’s Bobby Fong, Attack Kawasaki’s Steve Rapp and Chaz Davies, and Graves Yamaha’s Tommy Aquino crashed in a chain-reaction incident on the first lap, causing the race to be stopped. Davies and Aquino were able to make the restart. Rapp was treated and released from the infield medical center but did not restart the race. Fong was transported by ambulance to a local hospital to have suspected broken ribs X-rayed. The race was restarted for 13 laps instead of its original 15-lap distance.
