This is Yates’ third AMA Superstock championship. Additionally, Yates led the points chase all season, winning or finishing second in all nine events. Jordan Suzuki teammate Geoff May picked up his second AMA Superstock victory of the season, and he also has two other podium finishes under his belt. Rounding out the all-Suzuki Superstock podium was M4 EMGO Suzuki’s Blake Young. Starting from his first-ever pole position, Young rode a strong race to bring home third place. With this result, Young claims one Superstock victory and four additional podiums. Aaron Yates: “Today’s race was pretty smooth, I didn’t have any big moments”¦ the race was good, really, it couldn’t have gone any better. I got good starts, and I had a clean track and went hard. I was real comfortable with the pace we were going on the Jordan Suzuki GSX-R1000″¦ It really feels great to wrap up the championship here at Road Atlanta in Georgia. I’ve got a lot of friends and family and fans out there. Also, now there’s no pressure going into the last race. I’m happy to get the championship for the Jordan Suzuki team they definitely deserve the number one plate.” Geoff May: “This race really worked out for me because all the pressure was on Aaron, so I could just sit back and watch him and see if I could get by him”¦ Once I got up to Aaron, I just tried to stay calm and be patient and I was able to get by him. Then I just tried to ride really defensive and not make any mistakes.” Blake Young: “It was a good race today, I was definitely giving 100 percent on the M4 EMGO Suzuki GSX-R1000. I tried to get a good start”¦ and then I just put my head down and tried to do what I needed to do. I had a couple of little incidents out there and it just seemed like whenever I tried to push and push and push and get up there with Aaron and Geoff, they were just too far away… So on the last few laps, I just tried to relax and bring home third place.” More, from a press release issued by Jordan Suzuki: MICHAEL JORDAN MOTOR SPORTS SUZUKI WINS CHAMPIONSHIP Yates Claims Third Superstock Championship; Fifth AMA National Title Braselton, GA (August 31, 2008) Michael Jordan Motor Sports Suzuki’s Aaron Yates today earned his third AMA Superstock championship and his fifth overall AMA National Championship.
