The stage has been set for the Canadian Kawasaki Racing team to make racing history at the much anticipated final round of the Parts Canada Superbike Championship this weekend in Shannonville Ontario. Piloting the all new ZX-10R, two-time defending champion Jordan Szoke, who wrapped up his third consecutive Pro 600 Sport Bike Championship earlier this month, will be looking to add a Superbike three-peat to his already storied career. “Making it three in a row in both classes was my goal for this season and I’m close to realizing that goal. With the 600 win we achieved one of those objectives already and, I say we, because this has been a Kawasaki Race Team effort,” said Szoke. “Without the proven winning performance of the ZX-6R, and the top notch technicians to prep the bike, I don’t think it would have been possible. It’s never over until it’s over, but the ZX-10R has been awesome all year and with my team behind me, I’m confident I will fulfill part two of my goal this weekend and claim the Superbike crown.” Going into the fray at Shannonville Motorsport Park, Szoke carries with him a solid 42 points lead over second place in the standings Clint McBain, and 82 points over third place Kevin Lacombe. To all intents and purposes the final round of the premier class championship is slated to be a battle between to riders. While Szoke has every intention to race for the top of the podium, mathematically he only needs to finish 12th or better. And that’s only if McBain scores maximum points. Also up for grabs is a new record in Superbike wins. Szoke tied the legendary benchmark of 26 wins held by Steve Crevier after a big win at Round 5 and a victory at Shannonville would put the Brantford, ON native clearly in the history books as the new all time winner in Canadian Superbike competition. “I definitely would like to go out with a win at Shannonville, because that would really add the icing on the cake,” said Szoke. “If conditions prove favourable for me, that’s what I’m aiming for. If they don’t, then securing the necessary points for the championship will be the priority.” Meanwhile, Szoke’s teammate, Brett McCormick, who has had more than his fair share of setbacks this season, will be aiming to improve upon his current Pro 600 and Superbike rankings at the season finale. In the 600 class, he is in sixth place, 10 points down from fourth place; in Superbike, he holds down ninth, just six points shy of sixth place. “In preparation for this event, we have gone through everything, every nut and little bolt, making sure everything is the way it should be to get that Superbike Championship locked down,” said team manager Jeff Comello. “Jordan is mentally ready for the challenge and Brett is looking to end the series on a high note and go for his first Superbike win.” With a promising looking weather forecast of sunshine and dry conditions for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, everyone at Kawasaki is looking forward to a great weekend.
