DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (August 22, 2008) — Geared up and ready to roll, SunTrust MOTO-ST Series teams are set for an all-new challenge when they take their first lap on the Thunderbolt Raceway course at New Jersey Motorsports Park, August 29-30. Making their debut at this new facility, the SunTrust MOTO-ST Series showcases three classes; The Buell Motorcycle Company SuperSport Twins class (SST) which includes motorcycles producing between 90-118 horsepower, the BMW GrandSport Twins class (GST) covering motorcycles producing 75-90 horsepower and Sport Twins (ST) for machines under 75 horsepower. The next to the last event on the 2008 schedule, this race will be all important to every team in the field. Not only does each team want the prestige of being able to claim the very first two-wheeled victory at this new track, but the available points can easily mean the difference between winning or losing this season’s title. After five events the points are incredibly close in all three classes. In the SST class, defending champion Aprilia USA/Lloyd Brothers Motorsports features top-ranked riding aces Mike Himmelsbach of Quakertown, Pa., and Ty Howard of Weatherford, Texas; the pair hold the lead by a margin of three points. Right behind is Touring Sport Ducati with former World Superbike and Endurance Champion Doug Polen of Camarillo, Calif., and his teammate Ryan Gordon of Fairplay, S.C. In GST, the defending champion Touring Sport Ducati with Frank Shockley, Brad Phillips and Peter Friedland, all from South Carolina, hold the lead with 156 points. However, hot on their heels is James Gang/Hoban Brothers Racing. Headquartered in Waukesha, Wis., this team sits four points behind the leader. Also closing in is the No. 69 RightsForBikers.com. Ranked in third, they are only seven points behind the leader. In the ST class, Pair-A-Nines with AMA Hall of Fame greats Jimmy Filice of Daytona Beach, Fla., and Jay Springsteen of Lapeer, Mich., are tied for first with No. 66 of M4 Avteq Racing from Dallas, Texas. With riders from all over the United States, South America and Italy, the racing action will indeed be fast and furious when the SunTrust MOTO-ST Series teams take to the newly built Thunderbolt Raceway track. For the entire field, racing at New Jersey Motorsports Park represents an all new challenge. No one will have an extra edge as no one has raced on the track before and that puts everyone on equal footing and that definitely makes for some exciting racing. A true test of both man and machine, the SunTrust MOTO-ST Series gives race fans a chance to see a variety of different machinery in action including motorcycles from BMW, Ducati, Suzuki, Aprilia, Buell, Kawasaki and more. This is an event not to be missed. It will be an all out battle from beginning to end. The SunTrust MOTO-ST Series is organized and sanctioned by Professional Motorsports Productions (PMP) of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, and the Grand American Road Racing Association (Grand-Am), based in Daytona Beach, Fla., provides the series with administrative and commercial support.
