During the next round of the AMA Superbike Championship series, a double header at Road Atlanta on August 29-31, all classes will utilize recently completed circuit updates, which include a reconfiguration of turn four and a new turn 12 configuration to complete each lap. Following a recent test by several AMA race teams at the Braselton, Georgia facility, further resurfacing in these revised sections improved surface traction in preparation for the upcoming Suzuki Superbike Showdown, presented by Rockstar. In the newly revised final corner, turn 12, a “run-off area” on rider’s left will allow competitors whose motorcycles have left the racing surface to use the support paddock’s pit lane. From there, they can proceed safely through the old pit and reenter the track in turn one. Road Atlanta is hosting the penultimate round of the 2008 AMA Superbike Championship, which consists of five classes: the AMA Superbike Championship presented by Parts Unlimited, the AMA Pro Honda Oils Supersport Championship presented by Shoei, the AMA Superstock Series presented by Dynojet, the AMA Formula Xtreme Series and the Red Bull AMA U.S. Rookies Cup. All of these classes are scheduled to run rain or shine on Road Atlanta’s 2.54-mile, 12-turn circuit.
