(Denver, CO) Colorado Amateur Motorsport Associates announced Friday [August 8] that they have completed the necessary steps to begin construction of High Plains Raceway. A ground breaking ceremony is planned for 1:00 pm Friday, August 15th at the site, located 17 miles east of Byers on US Highway 36. Designed by Bill Howard of Plan West, Inc, High Plains Raceway will be a challenging 2.5 mile road course that will host events sanctioned by amateur club racing organizations and will be available for private testing sessions as well as training for local law enforcement agencies, auto dealership promotional events, and other driver safety training. Unlike most racing facilities that are privately owned, High Plains Raceway will be owned and operated by the members of the racing organizations that will be the primary users of the facility. Winslow Construction Company and Premier Paving Incorporated have been contracted to construct the facility. A spring 2009 opening is planned. Colorado Amateur Motorsports Associates, LLC, is made up of the members of five Colorado based amateur club racing organizations: Rocky Mountain Vintage Racing, Ltd (RMVR), the Colorado Region of the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA), Porsche Club of America, Rocky Mountain Region (PCA-RMR), Motorcycle Roadracing Association (MRA) and the Multi-Car Clubs Alliance (MCCA), an alliance of eight other area car clubs.
