Batey And Westby Win Before Rain Ends WERA National Challenge Series Event At Summit Point

Tray Batey and Dane Westby collected wins during WERA National Challenge action at Summit Point Raceway in Summit Point, West Virginia Sunday. In the Open Superstock race, Vesrah Suzuki’s Batey rode his Pirelli-shod GSX-R1000 to a 3.7-second win over Summit Point specialist Tim Bemisderfer on another GSX-R1000 and GSX-R750-mounted Robert Jensen. Russell Wikle edged John Jacobi for fourth. T. Westby Corporation’s Dane Westby took a narrow come-from-behind victory over Butler Machinery’s Jensen in the 600cc Superstock race. Local hero David Rose finished third, about 15 seconds behind the lead duo. Wikle Racing’s Russell Wikle took fourth with Jason Palmer fifth in the 10-lap event. Racing action was stopped shortly after 2:00 p.m. when heavy thunderstorms moved into the area. The rain stopped around 4:30 p.m., but race officials could not get the racing surface back to raceable condition. The race day was called with four races complete.
