AMA Pro Racing officials have just announced that the Mid-Ohio 600cc Supersport race results remain provisional due to a protest filed by Jake Zemke and Erion Honda, stating that the chassis of winner Ben Bostrom’s Yamaha YZF-R6 was illegally modified. AMA Pro Racing officials have confiscated the winning Graves Yamaha’s frame and triple clamp assembly. Paddock speculation is that the Graves Yamaha was fitted with non-standard triple clamps to improve steering and front-end feel. Bostrom was a runaway winner in the race. More, from a press release issued by AMA Pro Racing: Mid-Ohio AMA Supersport Championship Results To Remain Provisional Pending Protest Lexington, Ohio (8/3/08) — Due to a technical protest, today’s AMA Pro Honda Oils Supersport Championship presented by Shoei results will remain provisional until the matter is resolved. The protest was submitted to AMA Pro Racing by Jake Zemke’s Erion Racing Honda team. It questions the legality of the frame on today’s Supersport-race-winning bike, the number 155 Yamaha ridden by Graves Motorsports Yamaha’s Ben Bostrom. The frame and triple clamp assembly in question will be compared to other production frames and triple clamp assemblies from the same model at AMA headquarters in Pickerington, Ohio. The results of this inspection will be made available as soon as it is complete.
