Rockstar Makita Yoshimura Suzuki’s Mat Mladin and Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Jamie Hacking both crashed in Turn 9 on the first lap of the restarted AMA Superbike race Saturday at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. Mladin and Hacking, who were first and second, respectively, at the time, both lost traction at the rear tire in exactly the same manner at exactly the same spot on the track. Transmissions heard over the AMA Pro Racing radio system said there was no oil found on the section of track where Mladin and Hacking crashed, but there was water on the track. Moisture was then found on the bridge above that area of the track, and AMA has received reports that a spectator was seen dumping out a beverage cooler on the bridge. Mladin and Hacking both got up and walked away from their crashes. Ben Spies, who was third and close behind Mladin and Hacking, did not crash, but he showed signs of physical pain as he returned to his team’s area on pit lane. The race was stopped due to Mladin’s motorcycle lying in the middle of the track.
