Round four, Spanish 1000cc Formula Extreme Championship Circuito de Albacete, Spain July 27, 2008 Morales Wins Spanish FX en Albacete, American Noyes Fourth Carmelo Morales (Laglisse Yamaha) held of his team mate Javier del Amor at the flag to win his second Spanish 1000cc Formula Extreme race of the season and pulls to within eight points of Jose Luis Cardoso (Blusens BQR Suzuki), who was third today at Albacete in the fourth round of the series. The surprise came from Kenny Noyes (Motorrad Suzuki) who came from the third row to lead the opening laps. The Spanish-based American was in the battle for the win until his rear tire began to go off after eight laps. After that he found himself locked into a battle with Victor Carrasco (Palmeto Kawasaki) and Bernat Martinez (T.B. Yamaha), and had to resort to a bid of high-speed trickery to hold off Carrasco. Noyes was fourth and now moves up to fifth in the points table with three rounds to go. “We had problems in qualifying and I was back in ninth on the grid. I didn´t get to do any long runs. I went against the advice of the Dunlop guys today and used a softer tire, but I didn´t want to start on a tire I hadn´t done race distance one. I did my best lap of the weekend in the warm-up on the harder tire and I understand now that with that tire I could have stayed at the front,” said Noyes. “The problem was that I had done a race simulation with the softer tire earlier in the year. After the tire went off I lost touch with the leaders and was in trouble. Carrasco, who was on the harder tire”¦like just about everyone else”¦was all over me. With about four laps to go I started braking early for the first turn and then having to ride hard to keep the lead over the rest of the lap. I figured Carrasco would decide to wait and take me where I weak in that corner, but on the last lap I went deeper than I had all race and it worked because once I got out of that corner in front I knew I could cover him over the rest of the lap. But maybe Dunlop know more about their tires than I do!” The Spanish championship now takes a long summer break until September, but Noyes has been given authorization and encouragement from Motorrad Suzuki to take part in the AMA Superstock rounds at Mid-Ohio and Virginia International Raceway with the Celtic Racing team of Barry Gilsenen. Motorrad Team owner Manuel Alonso said, “Kenny is coming on very strong this year and we think it will be very good for him to face the challenges of the tough AMA Superstock Championship. As long as he is on a Suzuki and with Dunlop on a good team, we have no problems, but we need him back in September. The next race is right here at Albacete!” Noyes´ team mate, Sergio Fuertes, finished twelfth and is now twelfth in the series. Race Results Albacete 1. Morales (Yamaha) 2. Amor (Yamaha) 3.
