The 40-minute AMA Superbike practice session scheduled for Saturday morning at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca has been canceled due to fog and limited visibility and will not be rescheduled, according to AMA Superbike Media Relations Manager Eric Putter.
The session was the only practice session scheduled for the AMA Superbike class Saturday and would have been their second of two on the weekend.
The AMA Superbike practice will not be rescheduled due to the FIM MotoGP World Championship schedule taking priority this weekend.
AMA Superbike is scheduled to have a 25-minute qualifying session Sunday morning, prior to a 28-lap race at 3:45 p.m. local time Sunday afternoon.
Update: Saturday’s AMA Superbike practice may be rescheduled from 5:15 to 5:45 p.m. local time, according to AMA Pro Racing’s Bill Syfan. “Our friends with FIM, Dorna and the track are working on making that time available to us,” said Syfan. “We are working it out. We polled the teams about the possibility of the 5:15 session, and they were pretty positive about it.”
“Anytime you schedule a session at 8:00 a.m. at Laguna Seca you never know what you’re going to get,” said six-time AMA Superbike Champion Mat Mladin. Mladin, who agreed that it was too foggy to ride, said the session at 5:15 p.m. Saturday could end up being more productive because it will be closer to the actual time of day of the race.
Second Update: Saturday’s AMA Superbike practice has officially been rescheduled for 5:15 to 5:45 p.m. Saturday.
