Howard Sets New CMRA Motorcycle Lap Record At Sugarland Road Course

Parker, Dominguez, Howard Win At Mercedes-Benz of Sugarland Road course The Central Motorcycle Roadracing Association took its championship series on the road for the Fourth of July weekend, visiting for the first time the 2.4-mile, 17-turn Mercedes-Benz of Sugarland Road Course in Angleton, Texas. Over 430 sprint entries and 28 endurance teams graced the grids under hot and sticky conditions for the sixth round of the CMRA series. Louisiana Yamaha rider Ricky Parker must have liked the new venue as he claimed three Expert-class wins, while usual suspects Dustin Dominguez (four wins) and Ty Howard (three wins) also topped the podium during Sunday’s sprint racing action. Parker and Dominguez pushed each other to three close finishes, with Parker getting the upper hand in the South Central Race Center C Superstock race by just 0.413 seconds over Dominguez, and by 0.895 seconds in the Team Mancuso Powersports B Superbike race. Meanwhile, Dominguez edged Parker by 0.257 seconds for the win in the Island Racing Services C Superbike race. Parker added wins in the AVTEQ A Superbike race, while Dominguez also claimed wins in the Exel Transport Formula 2 race and in the D Superbike race. All of Howard’s three wins came with big margins of victory as the Weatherford, Texas, rider won big in the Raceworx A Superstock, Liberty Motorsports Park B Superstock and Northwest Honda Formula 1 Expert races. Howard also laid down the fastest lap time of the day with a scorching 1:32.040 coming on the second lap of the Formula 1 race. The always hotly-contested GMAN 125 GP race was won by Garet Tomlinson, who has been honing his craft in the Red Bull Rookies Cup series this year. Meanwhile, Eric Falt took wins in the Lightweight Twins, Formula 40 Lightweight Twins and E Superstock divisions. Other Expert winners included David Roy (CompuCrew Formula 40 Heavyweight), Robert Bradlaw (Unlimited Motard), Clayton Schultz (Clubman), Robert Marsh (Classic Unlimited) and John Wood (Super Motard). In the Novice divisions, Blair Krogh had five wins, including a big win in the Ridesmart Lightweight Twins race, while Clint Shobert took the win in the Moto Liberty C Superstock race and Allan Campbell claimed victory in the Winn Racing Formula 1 race. Saturday’s six-hour endurance race, round four of the Shogun Motorsport CMRA Endurance Series was won by Team Mancuso Powerpsorts (Paul Wilkinson, Craig Clark, Chris Romeo, Dane Westby, Dustin Meador). The GSX-R1000-based team topped the YZF-R6 of Ricky Parker, Todd Fleeman and Dustin Doucet (Rocky Tucker) by a two-lap margin. Moto Ace Racing (Richard McFarland, Joe Prussiano, Cory Burleson, Derek Wagnon, Scott Foster) was third overall on a GSX-R600, with Village Idiots (Chris Headley, John Orchard, Craig Montgomery, Chad Tieszen) claiming fourth on a YZF-R6, and KX-6R-mounted Lone Star Track Days (Mark Niemi, Gabe McClendon, Andrew Galindo) taking fifth overall. GMAN Racing (Harry Tomlinson, Michael Guillot, Michael Rochester, Pete Martins) won the Formula 1 division on a ZX-10R in ninth overall, while Faltless Racing (Eric Falt, Robert Bradlaw, Charles Ergle, Bill Erzal, Clayton Schutz) won the Formula 2 class on a SV650 in 13th overall. In Mini Sprint action, Brysen Carter won the Creative Automation & Design/H&H Communications Junior Motard race; Stephen Guynes topped the Forumla 4 race; Jeffrey Martin was tops in the Formula 5 class, Roger Albert win the F6 race, and Brandon Altmeyer claimed the win in the F7 division. The CMRA continues its series on July 28-29 at Hallett Motor Racing Circuit near Hallett, Oklahoma, with a full slate of sprint races, as well as a 5 hour big bike endurance race and a 2 hour mini endurance race.
