The Kawasaki MotoGP race team may announce as early as Tuesday who will take the place of injured rider John Hopkins at the German Grand Prix, at Sachsenring, and the Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix, at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. Originally, Monster Energy Kawasaki AMA Superbike riders Jamie Hacking and Roger Hayden and Attack Kawasaki’s Chaz Davies were all being considered to ride the vacant Ninja ZX-RR at Laguna Seca only, but now the possibility of Davies racing the bike in Germany and America is being considered, according to Davies’ manager Bob Moore. “I will know in about eight hours,” Moore, of the Wasserman Media Group, told Roadracingworld.com Monday afternoon when asked if Davies will ride Hopkins’ vacant bike. “I spoke to Michael Bartholemy [Kawasaki Competition Manager], who is in Japan, and I guess they are going to make their decision today [Japan time]. And it’s actually a possibility for Sachsenring, as well, for Chaz. Everyone was saying it was just for Laguna. I know Michael was going to leave the bike free, but this Chaz deal may work out. So we’ll see. “The good thing is they all ride for Kawasaki and they’re all Monster athletes. I think the one thing Chaz has going for him for Sachsenring is he knows the circuit well and he also has MotoGP experience, where the other riders don’t have the experience on that track.
