Sturla Fagerhaug sits on provisional pole after the first of two qualifying sessions for Saturday’s Dutch round of the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup. The 16 year old Norwegian was fast and consistent throughout the 30 minutes and was 0.297 seconds quicker than Cup leader Luis Salom at the end. “It went pretty well,” said Fagerhaug. “Early on I was in quite a bit of traffic and I did not want to pull the others along so I waited. Towards the end I was on my own and the bike was working well and I was happy to put in some good laps. We’ll see if the wind changes much for tomorrow otherwise there is no need to change the bike, it seems pretty good.” Salom was a touch frustrated to be bettered by Fagerhaug right at the end of the session. “It’s just me,” said the 16 year old Spaniard. “I’ve got to get the track right in my head, then I should be quicker tomorrow.” Third fastest was 15 year old German Dani Kartheininger. “There seemed to be a problem with my engine over 12,000, apart from that the bike was OK.” Thirteen year old Japanese Daijiro Hiura was fourth quickest but taken to the medical centre to have his knee checked over after crashing at the end of the session. The knee was x-rayed and is not broken but is swollen and will be stiff for Friday’s practice. Matt Hoyle got the fifth fastest time and was glad to have found the form that seemed to be missing at a few races. “The bike is so much better, a lot of suspension changes. Much softer front and back and I’m going to try a few more things,” said the 17 year old Briton.
