The Formula Xtreme race was originally started in the dry but was stopped for a four-bike crash in Turn One. Eric Wood and Nicky Moore were both transported to St. Nicholas Hospital in Sheyboygan, Wisconsin with non-life-threatening injuries, according to a Road America spokesperson. Jason Farrell and Fernando Amantini, the other two riders involved in the incident, were able to participate in the restart. The race was restarted and then stopped again on its first lap due to lightning in the area. The race was started a third time under a light rain. The Formula Xtreme race, which was restarted twice due to an accident and the arrival of rain, proved to be the most exciting of the day. After a difficult start on the wet asphalt, Larry quickly found himself leading the field around the Wisconsin circuit. An eight lap battle ensued on the damp track and despite racing on full wet tires, Larry managed to put the Ducati on the podium. “I thought we could win this one for sure, my Ducati 848 was running strong,” said Pegram. “I started to ride harder in the middle of the race but it was a bit too dry to push on wet tires. I just put my head down and fought Josh and Aaron to the finish.” Larry Pegram is now third in the championship, with a 26 point lead over Josh Hayes. The next round of the AMA Formula Xtreme Champioship will be at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course August 2nd. More, from a press release issued by Team M4 EMGO Suzuki: RAIN DISRUPTS ROAD AMERICA FOR TEAM M4 EMGO SUZUKI Saturday was a chaotic day at the track for Team M4 EMGO Suzuki at Road America. The Formula Xtreme contest was twice red flagged and ultimately declared a wet race and the Supersport qualifying session was postponed until Sunday after the already short session was cut short by yet another red flag. However, the squad still managed to find success as Blake Young and Cory West put in top-four practice performances in Supersport, Young earned a second-row starting spot in Superstock, and Michael Barnes finished in the top ten in a difficult FX race. Young will start tomorrow’s 10-lap Superstock final from the inside of the second row, qualifying fifth fastest aboard his Pirelli-shod GSX-R1000 with a best time of 2:16.518 at his home circuit. The Madison, WI native was even more impressive in the morning’s Supersport session, again showing the capability to run up front in the highly competitive class by circulating second fastest at 2:19.226. Meanwhile, West, who earned his first-career AMA podium finish in last weekend’s Supersport race in Utah, was fourth fastest in the afternoon session at 2:20.200 before it was stopped short and had its status altered from qualifying to practice. ‘Barney’ and Martin Cardenas concluded the day by taking part in the Formula Xtreme final. The race was first halted due to a multi-rider crash and then again following nearby lightning strikes. After a lengthy delay, the race got back under way in a spitting rain, making for a difficult tire choice with varying amounts of grip available around the racetrack. Floridian Barnes ultimately took tenth position, while Colombian Cardenas finished 16th in his return to action for the squad. “It was a mixed bag for us on Saturday,” said Crew Chief Keith Perry. “The Formula Xtreme race was tough with the conditions and there was no tire that could have been ideal. We’re glad that one is over. It’s good to have Martin back and he’s learning what he needs to about his conditioning after the injury. We’ll look to have a good Sunday.” Team M4 EMGO Suzuki faces a busy day on Sunday as Young, West, and Barnes will first qualify in Supersport, then Young will take on the 60k Superstock final, followed by all three contesting the 10-lap Supersport race.
