Young gun Tommy Aquino, Jr., who just turned the AMA Pro Racing-legal age of 16 on May 24, is making his professional AMA racing deal this weekend at Miller Motorsports Park (MMP). “It’s going pretty good right now,” Aquino told Roadracingworld.com during the lunch break Thursday. “We’re just setting up the bike, setting up gearing, setting up for the race.” Aquino said he was feeling comfortable out on track because he has a fair amount of experience on the MMP track and he already knows most of the riders he will be racing against in the AMA Supersport class. “It’s not like I’m coming in here not knowing anyone,” said Aquino. “Like, ‘Wow, that’s Josh Hayes!’ I know Josh Hayes. We talk a lot. It’s not a lot of pressure. It’s just like, ‘I’m 14th. I’ve got a lot of people in front of me.'” Aquino raced with Hayes several times in 2007, when Aquino won the WERA 600cc Superbike National Challenge Championship. Aquino currently leads the point standings in the WERA West C Superstock and C Superbike Championships.
