EMMETT GUNNING FOR THE DOUBLE AT DONINGTON Fan favourite Sean Emmett will head for Donington Park this weekend with one thing on his mind: doing the double. The popular ex-GP racer is currently leading the Henderson R1 Cup standings and wants to increase his points lead – but winning the weekend’s double-header at the Leicestershire circuit is really driving him. He said: “I like Donington Park a lot. I have raced there on so many different types of bike I have lost count and I’ve done plenty of winning too. “The R1 Cup is a close scrap. Although I have the championship lead, it’s only by four points and I haven’t won a race yet. “I want to come away with two wins and 50 points in my pocket.” Sean has stood on the podium in both the preceeding Henderson R1 Cup rounds at Thruxton and Oulton Park. He was second behind former supermoto star Sam Warren in the wet at Oulton and then stood on the second step of the podium at Thruxton when he was narrowly beaten by Jon Kirkham. Sean said: “The wet suited Sam’s supermoto style but I don’t think he will be able to replicate that in the dry. Well, I hope not anyway. “It’s going to be a tough championship and it’s a quality field. Anyone who thinks I can run away with it is sorely mistaken. “I’ve always wanted to have a crack at a one-make series and now’s the chance. We’re all on the same bike and on the same tyres, so it’s a level playing field for everyone.” The action kicks off at Donington with qualifying on Sunday May 25th and both races are to be held on Bank Holiday Monday. Donington Park is situated just off junction 23a of the M1, right next to East Midlands Airport. Or via Melton Mowbray if you fancy the scenic route.
