Ty Howard lowered the existing track record by almost two seconds, however it was Dane Westby and Dustin Dominguez who claimed the most wins at round four of the CMRA Championship Series at Hallett Motor Racing Circuit in Hallett, Oklahoma, this weekend. Dominguez and Westby each had four wins, with Westby winning two exciting finals over North Dakota’s Robert Jensen. Meanwhile, Howard, who might have had more wins had it not been for brake problems, turned a blistering 1:14.385 in the RaceworX A Superstock Expert race, en route to a second place finish behind Westby. The old record for the clockwise direction was a 1:16.326 set by Westby last year. Earlier in the day, Howard claimed a dominating win in the Liberty Motorsports Park B Superstock Expert race, topping Arkansas’ Cory Burleson and Jensen in the process. However, it was Westby’s win in the Northwest Honda Formula 1 Expert race that provided the most drama. Howard took the early lead with Jensen and Westby in hot pursuit. At the midway point, Howard lost his brakes and dropped off the pace, leaving Jensen with the lead, just ahead of Westby. Westby pushed the Suzuki-mounted Jensen at every opportunity until on the last lap when Jensen over-cooked an off-camber left-hander and ran wide, leaving Westby just enough room to get by. Westby beat Jensen to the line by 0.875 seconds to take the checkers and the check. On lap four of the race, the YZF-R6-mounted Westby turned a 1:14.387, missing Howard’s record by 0.002 of a second. Almost 500 entries turned out for the Hallett race, which experienced a beautiful day for racing on Sunday, after strong winds ravaged the area on Saturday night. In other racing action, European Red Bull Rookies Cup competitor J.D. Beach took the win in the GMAN Racing 125 GP, however Jake Lewis topped both Eric Falt and Beach for the win in the Lightweight Twins Expert race. Kent Moffitt won the Unlimited Motard race, and Dominguez added wins in the Sonic Springs D Superstock and Team Mancuso Powersports B Superbike Expert races. The AVTEQ A Superbike Expert race was dominated by Derek Wagnon, while Danny Dominguez took the win in the CompuCrew Formula 40 Expert race. In Novice racing action, Shawn Adams won the Moto Liberty C Superstock race, Cecil Keeling won the WINN Racing Formula 1 race and Ethan Waller win the Creative Automation & Designs/H&H Communications Junior Motard race. During Saturday’s endurance rounds, Moto Ace Racing (Richard McFarland, Joe Prussiano, Cory Burleson, Derek Wagnon, Scott Foster) topped a 30-team field to claim their second win of the Shogun Motorsports CMRA Endurance Series, beating KNMotorcycles.com (Tyler McDonald, Shannon Ball) to the line by a two lap margin. Meanwhile, Tucker Rocky (Ricky Parker, Todd Fleeman, Dustin Doucet) claimed their first podium of the year in third. GMAN Racing 2 (Garet Tomlinson, Harry Tomlinson, Bill Syfan, Jake Lewis) took their first win of the year in the Shogun Motorsports Formula Mini Endurance Series, beating Desert-Mice (Stephen Guynes, Jeff Mendelson) and defending series champs Hambone (Chuck Ergle, Keith Hertell, Eric Falt, Jess Foltz). The CMRA resumes its schedule with an eight-hour Mini Endurance race plus a full slate of sprint racing at Oak Hill Raceway near Henderson, Texas, on June 14-15.
