Some of the top Spanish riders will enter the 6 Horas Nocturnas of Albacete, second event of the Qtel FIM Endurance World Championship, taking place next Saturday from 6 pm to midnight. First is the local specialist, YMES Folch Endurance. Present on a regular basis on the Albacete podium, the team is now permanently competing in the Qtel FIM Endurance World Championship. Several mechanical problems and a crash took them away from a good result during the 24 Hours of Le Mans, but Daniel Ribalta, Pedro Lluis Valcaneras proved their potential by being temporarily in third place at Le Mans. David Tomas, another Spanish Endurance specialist, will race with them in Albacete. Two other national teams will be able to play at high level next week-end in Spain. Suzuki Catala gives its GSX-R 1000 to three top riders from the Spanish Formula Extreme (Superbike), Josep Sarda, Kenny Noyes and Bernat Martinez. Bruno Performance also looks like a serious contender with a Suzuki in the hands of Endurance experienced riders, Victor Casas, Salvador Cabana and Josep Monge. Another Spanish rider is part of the Team Kawasaki France. To replace Gwen Giabbani, dismissed at the end of April, Christian Bourgeois, team manager of TKF, chose Spanish rider Victor Carrasco, who was seen last year on the QERT motorcycle. Diego Lozano, who made a good impression in the Spanish Championship, will ride the Honda RMT 21. There is some change in the Suzuki Endurance Racing Team. Guillaume Dietrich will replace Matthieu Lagrive, who is suffering from torn muscles in his ribs after his crash during the World Supersport event in Assen. Moreover, Matthieu Lagrive also has to enter a Supersport race this week-end at Monza. The Italian rider and official MV Agusta Luca Scassa will ride the motorcycle for the first time in Albacete, with Midi Pyrénées Racing. He will be riding the F4R with Sébastien Scarnato and Patrick Piot. Yamaha Austria Racing Team is back with Steve Plater, entered at the 24 Hours of Le Mans and at the Bol d’Or on the Yamaha GMT 94, together with Igor Jerman and Steve Martin. Finally, on the Yamaha Phase One Endurance, Damian Cudlin and James Haydon will have a new team-mate, German Rico Penzkofer, usually riding the official BMW Motorrad. First battles on the track are to be followed as from Friday morning in Albacete, with the free practice session.
