Aurora, IL Michael Jordan Motor Sports Suzuki’s Aaron Yates and Geoff May return to action at Birmingham, Alabama’s Barber Motorsports Park this weekend, April 18 20, 2008, in the first of eight Superbike doubleheader weekends. Yates is seeking his third consecutive win in the AMA Superstock class at the course. In 2007 at Barber, Yates earned the pole position, led the 17-lap race flag-to-flag and gave team Jordan Suzuki its first win. In the same event, Yates set two Barber track records, with the fastest single lap time of 1:25.619 and the fastest 17-lap Superstock event held on the 2.3 mile road course. He also won the 2006 Superstock race at the track. In 2003, Yates was the winner of the inaugural AMA Superbike race at Barber. Yates’ round one win at Daytona International Speedway last month ties him for the third winningest rider in Superstock wins. He is currently first in the overall AMA Superstock points standings and sixth in AMA Superbike points. Yates’ new teammate, Geoff May, qualified for fourth position in both the AMA Superstock and Supersport classes at last season’s Barber events. However, his respectable seventh place finish in Superstock was overshadowed by a horrific crash on lap-one of the Supersport race. May walked away from the incident suffering only a hematoma. In 2006, May earned a third place podium finish in Supersport and fourth place in the Superstock class. May is currently third in overall AMA Superstock points and 10th in AMA Superbike, while competing on his production-based Superstock Suzuki GSX-R1000. This is May’s first season riding for the Jordan Suzuki team. Prior to the events at Barber Motorsports Park, the Jordan Suzuki team will spend two days at the Dunlop Tire proving grounds in Huntsville, AL.
