ASRA Team Challenge Round 2 Carolina Motorsports Park Kershaw, South Carolina
Milan Rolls to Carolina Win
April 13, 2008 — With clear skies and projected high in the low 60’s, it was a perfect day to test your team against the re-configured CMP road course and is just what Ivan Milan of the Slovak-Czech Racing Team did.
From the green flag, it was a measured assault on the Team Challenge entrants by the A&J Recognition Solo riders led by Milan. Milan took his Suzuki 1000 from 15th place on the start to the lead by lap 16 by passing the Serpent Racing 2 team with Jason Temme aboard. For the next twelve laps the two teams took turns at the point until Milan went in front for good at lap 29. For the next 40 laps the Milan posting consistent 1:40 to 1:41 times to secure the victory by a full lap over the second place Solo entrant Martin Lazor and the Team Challenge field.
In the ASRA Team Challenge battle, it was good battle at the start for MWT Racing and Serpent Racing 2 for the first few laps until Temme settled in to his race pace and he pulled away from the MWT Suzuki 1000 by about 6 seconds. With MWT falling back, it became a race of pace and strategy for the class leader. Capitalizing on the fastest lap of the race, a 1:39.362 on lap 22, Temme/Martinez/Mascara took charge and never looked back taking the Team Challenge Overall by more than 1-lap over defending National Champion RNR Cycles Repsol on the Kawasaki 600 and 2 laps over their teammates Serpent Racing riding the Ducati 848.
Individual class winners were Serpent Racing 2 in GTO, RNR Repsol in GTU and Chicken Racing taking their first GTL win and top ten overall finishes, Chicken Racing ridden by Eric Wilson and Alex Shaw.

FEISTY RACING ON THE PODIUM IN MISANO
Feisty Racing’s Susie Grayson grabbed a well-earned third in the European Women’s Superstock 1000 race at Misano yesterday, depsite a weekend of suspension woes and scrutineering attention.
It was Grayson’s first outing at the Circuito Santa Monica (home track of little-known riders as Valentino Rossi and Frankie Chili) and she admits she was nervous from the start: “I haven’t done anything like the amount of fitness training or testing that I should have done over the winter, and I am still getting used to the Yamaha R1, so I was a bit jittery come first practice.”
Racing against the likes of factory-supported girls like Nina Prinz and Marketa Janacova is never a easy thing to do and Grayson soon found out they are fast out of the crate at any track. She ended first practice 15-seconds off the pace but upbeat, and especially happy with some tyres Dunlop had made available.
But it was suspension that caused Grayson the biggest problems. “We had a leaky fork seal, so sent the forks off to a local mechanic to get them re-built, which they needed anyway. We put them back in the bike and found they where so hard, the bike was chattering and tank-slapping everywhere.
“We made some adjustments after some phone calls to the UK (thanks BSD and Bruce) and it got better, but I still couldn’t go anything like as quickly as I knew I could.”
After first qualifying, were Grayson managed to knock six seconds from her time, she enlisted the help of the at-track Ohlins specilaist who took one look at the forks, laughed, said she couldn’t possibly race with them in that condition, put his big hat on and went to work.
“They were absolutely solid internally,” said Grayson. “He totally rebuilt them in about 20 minutes and it came back a different bike.”
Second qualifying saw Grayson come down another few seconds in her lap time and managed to get a grid slot not too far behind the race’s big guns.
“We softened the suspension off again before the race and it worked better and better. I got pretty good start but lost a couple of places in the opening laps. I then got my head down and started a battle with Elisabet Zannini which I knew I could win.
“I eventually got the better of her but started to suffer badly with arm-pump so I thought I slowed down, but I did my quickest lap at the end. it was great to stand on the podium after a weekend of problems and too much attention from scrutineers who held my bike back at every opportunity.”

Willis Podiums Three Times at WERA Las Vegas
The second round of the 2008 WERA West took place at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway this past Sunday under sunny skies and high temperatures.
Looking to score solid point finishes in the three WERA West classes he’s contesting this season Garrett Willis went into the weekend with an increasing level of confidence in his machine and set up.
The first race of the day for Garrett in the C Superbike Expert class developed into a rematch of the battle he had with Tommy Aquino at the January 13th WERA West round. The race turned into a braking and straightway contest that saw Willis working hard to make up time on the brakes to keep the race close, ultimately he finished in second place.
For his second start of the day in the C Superstock Expert class Garrett got out to an early lead. While pushing hard trying to break away, Garrett started to tuck the front which resulted in an off road excursion which he was able to recover from without crashing. Willis got back on track in third position and kept pushing to make up the lost ground and ultimately finished in the third spot for his second podium of the day.
With two solid finishes already and a quick recovery from a near disaster Garrett went into his final race of the day with a goal of adding more points to his previous tally in the B Superstock class. Although he’s spotting the competition some displacement in this 750 class while riding his Honda CBR600RR Garrett really enjoys the challenge presented in racing the bigger bikes and put his head down and went to work locking in his second place finish and his third podium finish of the day.
After the races Garrett said “It looks like Tommy and I have a great season of close racing to look forward to. He has his strengths and I have mine so it should be really competitive as we go to different types of tracks. It’s really fun to race so closely with someone and especially when you have experience with them and can trust them to race cleanly.”
The next race on the schedule for Garrett is with the AFM at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, CA on April 27th, 2008.
Garrett Willis would like to thank are the sponsors that support his racing and help him pursue his dream of being a professional road racer:
