From a press release issued by Fasttrax: PUTNAM PARK, Indiana Nick Ziepfel had the honor of winning the first race of the 2008 Fasttrax racing season taking the win in the middleweight 30-minute mini-endurance Saturday, March 29. The cold and wind Saturday at Putnam Park Road Course located about 40 miles west of Indianapolis made for trying conditions as tires would not hold heat. The Lightweight mini, the second race of the day, was an all Suzuki SV650 event and Tristan Konnecker rode the fastest completing 22 laps in a time of 29:58.472 for the win. In the heavyweight mini, Scott Sheehan on a Suzuki GSXR-1000 covered 23 laps, putting him a full lap up when the clock stopped. Given the frigid conditions, Iron Butt took on a whole new meaning for the solo rider division in the three-hour endurance race. Wayne Yurak was the only man brave enough to give it a shot got a big jump on the points standing for the season. And in the team divisions, Team Backslash Caret took first overall. More, from another press release issued by Fasttrax: PUTNAM PARK, Indiana Cold and rain added to the challenges at Fasttrax’s sprint series opening Sunday, March 30 at Putnam Park Race Course. The weather deterred a number of riders from gridding, but those that took the start throughout the day diced away to wrack up the seasonal double points traditionally awarded at Fasttrax’s opening weekend. Matt Kamman came away the big winner, scoring 1st in class finishes in four of the six races in ran in, making the sprint rider something of an endurance champion as well. Kamman and Dave Dispenza gave spectators a great show as they fought for first in class and overall finish in race five that ended when Kamman’s rains overheated and he slid off the track in the seventh lap. Despite several riders sliding out in the rain, there were no injuries, which is a credit to the care and courtesy being extended by racers even as the battled.
