From a press release issued by the Motorcycle Safety Foundation: IRVINE, Calif., Mar. 20, 2008 – The Motorcycle Safety Foundation has received the RADD California Coalition Spirit of Partnership Award. This award was given for MSF’s distribution of alcohol awareness campaign materials to every motorcycle dealer in California. “We’re extremely proud to be part of the Coalition’s efforts to address the serious problem of impaired driving and riding in our state,” said Wendy Larkin, spokesperson for the MSF. “Alcohol use is a factor in over 30 percent of motorcycle crashes nationally.” Riding a motorcycle requires even more skill than driving a car. Even a small amount of alcohol can affect balance, coordination, reaction time, vision and judgment. Since a motorcyclist can’t have a designated driver, and is unlikely to leave their bike and take a cab, a rider simply needs to choose whether to drink or to ride. This led to a campaign message specifically for riders, ‘Decide Before You Ride.’ “We’re looking forward to a continued partnership with RADD, working on changing the mindset of anyone who turns the key of their vehicle, to make our roads safer for everyone,” Larkin said. About the Motorcycle Safety Foundation Since 1973, the MSF has set internationally recognized standards that promote the safety of motorcyclists with rider education courses, operator licensing tests, and public information programs. Its mission is to make motorcycling safer and more enjoyable by ensuring access to lifelong quality education and training for current and prospective riders, and by advocating a safer riding environment. The MSF works with the federal government, state agencies, the military, and others to offer training for all skill levels so riders can enjoy a lifetime of safe, responsible motorcycling. The MSF is a not-for-profit organization sponsored by BMW, BRP, Ducati, Harley-Davidson, Honda, Kawasaki, KTM, Piaggio, Suzuki, Triumph, Victory and Yamaha.
