AMA Superbike Stakeholders Optimistic Of Future With Daytona Motorsports Group

Stakeholders in the AMA Superbike Championship series are almost universally optimistic about the future of the series following Friday morning’s announcement that the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) had chosen to sell the rights to the series (along with several other AMA series) to Daytona Motorsports Group (DMG). Of the 10 AMA team owners and managers polled Friday by Roadracingworld.com, all expressed some level of optimism, some enthusiastic optimism, for the future of America’s premier motorcycle road racing series in the hands of DMG based on the group’s resources and particularly its proven record of success with NASCAR and Grand Am. And while most in the paddock felt confident the group would be “smart” about how it introduces inevitable changes to the series, many expressed concerns about DMG’s vision for AMA Superbike road racing and the timing of when that vision will be shared and implemented. AMA has organized a press conference Friday evening at Daytona International Speedway to talk about the sale of its racing properties, but most in the AMA Superbike paddock said they would rather have a meeting with DMG. Roger Edmondson, the President of Grand Am and one of the principals with DMG, is expected to attend tonight’s press conference, but it is unknown if he will answer questions.
