Tommy Hayden posted the fastest lap time during Thursday morning’s AMA Superbike practice at Daytona International Speedway. Hayden lapped the 2.89-mile infield road course in a time of 1:37.493 on his Rockstar Makita Suzuki GSX-R1000 Superbike, just quicker than his teammate and the defending two-time AMA Superbike Champion — Ben Spies, who did a 1:37.734. The session was stopped about four minutes before its scheduled conclusion when Team Roadracingworld.com Suzuki’s Robertino Pietri highsided his GSX-R1000 Superstock bike exiting Turn One. Pietri was initially slow to get up, but eventually he made his way off the track and back to his garage. Pietri crashed during the SunTrust MOTO-ST Daytona 300 Sunday, March 2 and fractured the scaphoid bone in his left hand. Boulder Motor Sports (BMS) Ducati’s Marty Craggill is not at Daytona. Sources with Ducati said the team could not get its 1098RS Superbikes in time to make it to Daytona. Roadracingworld.com attempted to reach BMS Ducati Team Manager Brian Sharp Tuesday evening, but at post time Sharp had not returned the call.
